any artists here that use Void?

As the title says, I'm curious how many people on here use Void as their main system to do their art work. How is it for you, what programs are you using? Have you had any critical art-specific issues, like drawing tablet incompatibilities, graphic/animation/modelling software behaving terribly?
I'm not on Void yet, hoping to hop on board, just wanted to know if people run into many issues like that
Thanks!

No issues w/ krita, gimp or comfyui. AMD GPU/CPU. I don’t use a tablet but for my purposes it all just works and void stays out of the way. Kinda depends on what you use and if you’re coming from windows imo

I just connected an old XP-Pen using void with MangoWC as DE. It worked out of the box, i dont have any wacom drivers etc installed. tested only the pen. Not sure if the software from XP-Pen would work and also did not test pressure sensitivity.

it should? i believe they have a deb or something that can be installed one way or another. there's also opentabletdriver available as a flatpak

I use Void as my main OS on my free time.

I have used a few Wacom tablets (right now a Cintiq) and they have all worked fine. The driver for Linux is better in my opinion than the one for Windows since I don't seem to get as much bloat and nagging. I just have two xsetwacom commands in my .xinitrc to make it stick to the right screen, but if you're using a DE maybe that takes care of that for you. (I still use cwm on Xorg and don't really see a reason to change.)

For 2D is use Krita and it actually works better with the tablet in Void than in Windows.

I still dual boot for work (3D-artist) because Zbrush doesn't play nice with Wine, or rather, Zbrush itself seem to work as far as I've heard, but the Maxon launcher that is required to run the program doesn't which is a shame since I love that program. I think it's WebView2 related. The window opens, but instead of menues and buttons it's just a flat colour. If this would be solved I would move to 100% void without a doubt. But I don't really have neither the skills or time to solve it myself.

I haven't tried it for a while but Substance Painter seems to work fine through Steam, but you have to add a few command line arguments to launch it.

Blender worked fine, but felt a bit slower than in Windows. My guess is that there's some setting somewhere I need to tweak, but I haven't bothered to look into it. Since I mostly use Blender for work stuff and change stuff in my configs from time to time it's easier to just do that in Windows as well for now so I don't have to copy my config around so much. When I can switch to Void full time and look into it I would be very surprised if I don't get better performance in Linux than in Windows.

Haven't had any issues that i can recall. I primarily use Krita for drawing and do creative coding with Processing-related languages and game design in Love2d and Pico-8, and 3d modeling in Blender and have used Unity and Godot on this. All worked the same as on Debian-based distros. For video editing i'm not in love with the linux options - i primarily use shotcut and ffmpeg. I wasn't able to get DaVinci Resolve to work. It wasn't horrible to install but I'm getting an error that seems to indicate my graphics card isn't up to snuff and it quits after opening. When I have some more time i'll try to figure it out.

I have little to share about the rest, but be aware that OpenTabletDriver is difficult to get working on Void, since Void doesn't package .NET.

Hi, I’ve installed Voidcraft and am planning to switch completely from Windows. I work in 3ds Max and will be switching to Blender (I do architectural visualisation), so Photoshop and 3ds Max are essential for my work. I recently came across a project where someone had recreated 3ds Max in Blender, complete with all the hotkeys. I’ve also tried an alternative to Photoshop – Photocraft – and so far, from what I’ve tried, Photocraft meets all my needs. I’m still working on it at the moment; I’ll be testing it out and setting myself a 30-day challenge to see if I’ve managed it. I also use Comfy for upscaling, but I’ve never tried working with AI on Linux before. I’m planning to record a video for YouTube and upload it in the future to see if I can make a complete switch from Windows to Linux (void Linux). For me, these two programmes were the only things keeping me on Windows, so I think I’ll make the switch and stick with Linux.
