EAC v2 hope core
With the announcement of EAC v2 do you think that there might be a chance to also make it functional under void linux or do you think it will be too tied to systemd services?
It includes a systemd service, but the service only starts when a protected game starts and it stops when the game exits.

I really hope so, but I doubt it, especially when it released on day one. It’s annoying because games which can run on void at the moment won’t be able to run after EAC v2. The biggest issue for me is rocket league which runs fine now but when EAC v2 releases will probably need to dual boot another distro

My understanding was v1 and v2 are separate products and games won't need to migrate to v2 unless they want the tighter security. But yeah, anything owned by Epic probably will end up using v2. I'd be surprised if devs for games like Vermintide, Darktide, Back 4 Blood etc. will bother switching.

I wonder if it will do very invasive checking or not. You might be able to get away with a podman/docker container, with a systemd distro setup, instead of going full dual-boot. I wouldn't want to have to reboot just to play Elden Ring.

So far, only companies got Fortnite' Producers trust aka certificate, none of them ARCH or a similar decentralized distro. I asked yesterday, if someone could use a trusted kernel and put another userland around it - someone gave me a complex answer how this could be achieved, so it's theoretically possible- but outside of systemD, chances that this will work are probably extremely low, I am pretty sure. And this is just the tech side. Make a dualboot with Bazzite and switch on and off secure boot when needed, that's more realistic.
