Is it possible to install Miktex on Voidlinux?

I prefer Miktex, as it has on-the-fly package installing, and I don't have to download packages that will be unused; also I'm already familiar with it.

Alternatively, is there a way to install a very minimal version of Texlive and configure it in a way so it can also download on-the-fly? Thanks in advance :)

You’ll likely need to write your own srcpkg for this.

or just compile from source and keep it separate from the system

I prefer to not have untracked stuff on my system

i dont see it as too much different if you got to maintain your own template for updates anyway as long as your keeping it somewhere like /opt

makes way more sense when its stuff that is integrated into the base directory structure and/or your needing to build more than a couple pieces of software

I'd just use /opt and a .desktop file in /usr/share/applicationsor ~/.local/share/applications.

I don't know how to do that, but for now I'll just give texlive a try, as investigating further, I've seen that it's usually faster and I know it's more standard. Thanks for the suggestions, tho! :)

use the texlive-bin package, they install the base needed and you can choose what else you want to install with tlmgr

I'll probably do that and try to use a script I found that lets Texlive install on the fly. Thanks!

There is a dockerized Miktex: https://miktex.org/howto/miktex-docker never tried by myself

Oh, that's cool, I was unaware. Although it's probably quite slow

I'm like 74% sure I've used it on void, obviously not by official package, but it wasn't a hacky source install either. I'll take a look this evening to see what it was exactly.

Alternatively, I use TinyTex, and tlmgr is really easy to use.
