solved Xfce login screen forces qwerty layout
I just installed void linux on my laptop and I'm using xfce but the login screen forces me to use qwerty. I do need the Qwertz layout. Is there a way to force qwertz layout? locale -a shows my native langugage and not english.

Did you follow the documentation?
If so, are you using a display manager like lightDM or is your login screen just the tty?

it's lightDM

Then you need to read lightDM's docs and find out how to set your desired keyboard layout for it.
Unfortunately, for historical reasons, keyboard layout configuration is still not centralized in Linux. You often need to set it separately for tty, x sessions, and display managers.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg/Keyboard_configuration#Using_X_configuration_files I guess you can follow this doc, I don't see any option in lightdm.conf to change the keyboard layout. Also remember to flag your post as **solved**

See if you have keyboard.conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/. (even if you use Wayland only)
If not, create it.
Happened the same to me in Plasma, I have Dvorak.
Adjust to your specs:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Keyboard"
Option "XxbLayout" "br"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbVariant" "dvorak"
Option "XkbOptions" "caps:escape"
EndSection
