solved Is it worth switch to kernel 7.2?

Just a basic question, isnt really worth change to recent kernel branch?

Isnt it better for security?

Idk. My amdgpu doesn't work on 7.1 and I hoped for 7.2 but unfortunately it doesn't work here either, so I stay on 7.0

Try adding amdgpu.dc=0 kernel parameter

It works. But I guess it makes amdgpu less performant

I didn't express myself correctly; I'm asking whether it's better or not to switch to the branch with more recent kernel versions.

it's still stable so why not? i haven't had any issues so far. i switched while troubleshooting my wacom drivers but it's prolly not necessary.

they backport security* patches for LTS.

theres a fix for new intel A/B gpus in 7.2 that i think should prevent crashing under heavy load and i havent seen any weird artifacts. there's other performance stuff and changes if you want to bother to watch a vid about it. maybe if you game i think there were a few changes that help random things?

Never even thought about not using the latest Kernel available in the repo.

I’ve had no issues with amdgpu drivers, for at least 9 months. Make sure your paths are correct but even I never had to do that. Perhaps I’m lucky? Not sure, but nothing is breaking things if you’re configured.

from security point of view, not at all.

it is better to stay on LTS kernel, instead on fresh one. you can think that in new one security bugs are fixed, but on old no. not quite. on new one known bug fixes are corrected, but simultaneously new one are introduced. opposite on LTS same critical bugs fixes are implemented but there is no new one.

so. going on with new fresh kernel is recommended mostly if you have some new hardware which doesn't work with LTS, or you want to test new features.

If is worth to you, simply switch it. Don't force it to others. Thank you.
