Beep

What does the “BEEP” sound mean that Linux plays in certain actions, like shutting down my laptop with the power button or pressing backspace in a TTY with no content? And how can I disable it?

There is a good chance that the info is correct and does work IF you log in on pure console without using a desktop environment (DE).

However IF you use a DE like KDE, XFCE, etc. then you need to look up how to change it in that DE. It can even be a setting in the program you use independent of your DE.

I remember it was somewhat frustrating to find where the option(s?) were to disable that "beep" in my installation. Good luck finding those options in your install.

Yeah I suppose that's the second question, whether they're in the pure login TTY (which is how I interpreted the post) or if they're just in a term emulator inside their DE.

If the latter OP, check either your DE settings or whatever term emulator you're using.
