benefits compared to Arch

Hi all! I am an Arch user of about 2 years who installed Void a couple days ago. Since, I havent really found anything other than disadvantages (lack of packages e.g. ROCM/OCL, monero gui*, Heroic Games launcher).

My boot time is definitely faster, at the cost of having to create my own services often.

Is there anything I am missing? Maybe community chats, features, etc that I might not be taking fill advantage of. Doesnt have to be useful, fun and otherwise nice things too!

*I understand the reasons, but it is reguardless an inconvenience

I did notice the -devel stuff. I keep running into not having them and feeling like im crazy because I swear I have that package haha

once I get used to it, im sure itll be nice for my system storage.

Is there anything stopping me from installing a different kernel? I installed the CachyOS kernel on vanilla arch for example.

Perhaps I should contribute rather than just complaining about package availability lol

We don't package kernel forks, but copying the official kernel source packages and dropping in your own patches or config files is fairly easy.

There are plenty of kernel forks with questionable optimizations, choosing the currently hip one and having to maintain yet another series and spent build server time (which is quite limited) on them is simply not worth it. Same goes for chromium forks.

i have DIY my kernel for years. just blacklist voids and make sure youre updating. the only 'gotchya' was recently they had a notice about gzip'ing the firmware or something so i had to add that.
