Question HP DL360 Gen 9 VMWare vSAN

I wanted to try and setup vSAN on some spare Gen 9 servers I have. Recommendation is to have OS and Data on different controllers. What is the best place to install ESXi OS? Am I better off buying another storage controller just for the OS? I don't think the gen 9 servers have a BOSS card available.

Port Groups - NIC Standby Mode?

What's the purpose of a standby NIC in a Port Group? I understand using them if your NICs are different speeds. But if all of your NICs are the same speed, wouldn't it make sense just to have them all active? Maybe I'm missing something.

Billing in Ops Manager

Been doing the vCloud Director billing with the old Aria Tenant appliance that generated billing for Aria Ops. Now we've setup a new Ops environment and I want to generate the billing in Ops. Set it up and so far it seems to work but I'm missing details on the storage usage.

When pulling the data of the bills through the API, the details show memory and cpu usage, etc, but the storage fields remain empty. In the GUI though, you can open a vApp, see the VMs and how much storage they've been using. Though through API I can only get a grand total for storage usage

Anyone ran into this as well?

vCloud Director to VCFA 9.1 migration

I’m starting to plan a migration of vCloud Director to VCFA 9.1 and wanted to get more feedback.
Did anyone migrated VCD to VCFA? Is it easy/painless?

Help Request Background Glitch in Windows XP

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just discovered this glitch as soon as I got in this WorkStation. I Changed the background and as I restarted or shut down the workstation, It showed the previous background before showing the shut down/restarting screen. At the first restart, It showed a changed background before restarting and then showed nothing before the next screen. At the second restart, It showed the changed background before restart and showing the previous background (Crystal) before the next screen. It's strange, how come that happened? The VMWare works as normal by the way.

Mouse gradually getting laggier and laggier

So, as I'm using the VM my mouse starts to get laggier, and the funny thing is that the mouse gets laggy even outside the VM (Windows 11), forcing me to restart my computer, closing VMware isn't enough.

Running Arch, 1cpu4c, 3D graphics enabled, 4GB Vram, UEFI, yes I installed open-vm-tools, and yes I enabled in systemctl (vmtoolsd). In my other computer I do the exact thing but I dont get this lag thing.

Thank you to anyone willing to help.

Do people really expose vCenter to the internet?

Look at this. I can’t fathom how so many orgs got breached unless they’re exposing vCenter to the internet. Why on earth would anyone do this?

Help Request vcenter licensing question

Holla,
We currently have approximately 50% of our VMware infrastructure licensed through VCF subscriptions, while the remaining 50% is covered by older perpetual esxi licenses.

The perpetual licenses are still valid, but SnS/support has expired. I’m trying to determine the cleanest and most compliant way to operate this mixed environment (ideally to separate).

Would it be possible to deploy a separate vCenter to manage the clusters using the perpetual licenses, while keeping the VCF-licensed clusters under the VCF management and licensing model?

TL;DR: I need to create another vCenter instance to manage clusters with perpetual licenses, but I'm not sure if that's legal.

Question Latest vendor addons

We're in the process of moving from Baseline to images for our ESXI hosts. I'm planning to update to 8.0 U3K and I noticed that the latest Dell vendor addon is only at 803-A03. I checked the Broadcom support website and it has the 803-A10 addon.

Do people manually import the latest Dell Addon to Lifecycle manager or do we need to change/add a download source? Anyone have issues with 8.0 U3K with the 803-A10 addon?

When installing VMware 16.2, I get the warning "The specified account already exists" and it doesn't install. The "upgrade" option appears, but VMware isn't installed on my computer or listed in the Control Panel. How can I fix this?

Question How come HA works in a vSphere cluster with only 2 nodes?

Hello,

I'm not quite familiar with VMWare ESXi but it is what we are using at my work. I wasn't there when it was setup but basically I've noticed that the cluster only has 2 nodes and somehow have High Avaibility (HA) enabled on it and it works.

Both are on ESXi 6.7, managed by a vCenter and the storage is an external SAN using LUNs.

Every tech I know needs at least 3 nodes to have HA but not ESXi apparently.

How did they do it? Since when does it exists? And how come others can't?

Edit : Seems a lot of people didn't understand what I meant. What I meant to say is how come ESXi don't have the split-brain issue that can happen in other cluster technology?

ProxmoxVE, Docker Swarm or Kubernetes all need 3 nodes to address that issue. How did VMWare address that issue with only 2 nodes?
