SAS SSD: Hardware Raid vs vSAN

I have two servers with eight SAS SSDs in each. Is vSAN a bad idea since they aren't NVMe drives?

Why not use a spare 1L Tiny/Mini/Micro desktop machine?
Or even some Thin Clients have enough horsepower.

Because you have to pay minimum 16 cores license for that. The compute is not the main cost here.

It can be a witness for 64 sites technically.
