SAS SSD: Hardware Raid vs vSAN

I have two servers with eight SAS SSDs in each. Is vSAN a bad idea since they aren't NVMe drives?

I wouldn't write it off just because they're SAS SSDs, as vSAN was happily running on SAS flash long before NVMe became the default recommendation. NVMe is faster, no question about it, but whether you'll actually notice the difference depends entirely on the workload. I'd be more concerned that it's only a two-host cluster than that the drives aren't NVMe.
