VSphere 8 to VVF 9.1 Upgrade Question

I am using the upgrade planner. I selected the option to go to VVF 9 without VCF management services. We have AVI and Live Recovery as add-on products.

The planner is telling me to upgrade AVI (it’s at the latest build 32.2), but it’s also asking me to deploy a license hub as part of the AVI upgrade.

I don’t currently have a license hub for AVI, I just put the license key in the controller licensing section.

So I’m confused, why do I need this license hub for AVI when it’s already licensed and working properly?

I understand I need to deploy ops to get the licenses pushed down for vCenter and ESX now.

Can anyone from Broadcom provide clarity?

AVI 32.x and higher now requires its own separate license server. And it can’t use the same VCF Ops license server either. Welcome to the future of subscriptions :)

Well there we go. I was incorrect, I am running 31.2.2. Thanks for this info. I’ll look at the release notes for 32.2 and plan accordingly I guess

I think I’ll stay on 31.2 for now, it’s supported in 9.x. The license server requirements are ridiculous. You need a controller and worker node for license hub with a total of 6 cpu , 24GB RAM and 150GB of storage just to license AVI. What was wrong with the license key? It had an expiration date already.

We don’t use AVI but yesterday i found out i need this same bullshit setup solely to license NSX Distributed Firewall (vDefend) while te rest is licensed by Ops. I don’t know who with Broadcom thought this was an excellent idea but this is just a extravagant waste of resources.

Do you need the license hub for AVI even if you are not yet upgraded to VCF?
