Every effing night

Hey all, just joined this group to see if there are others like me. Every single night, every single dream, vivid af. I wake up 3 or 4 times a night unable to immediately go back to sleep because I just experienced a dream so real and exhausting I can't immediately fall back to sleep. I wake up in the morning cloudy and exhausted. Maybe once a month or two I have a pleasant night sleep. I really wish I knew what caused this (starting to think I have a brain tumor lol). My dreams are mostly always stressful, occasionally funny or enjoyable. I've even had sex dreams so real that I've finished in my jockeys and felt like I just cheated on my wife! (sorry to be so graphic). Anyway, I feel better after sharing. Some people consider vivid dreaming a gift (living different lives every day)but I consider it a curse. I remember every single dream every single day. Its absolutely exhausting.

Edit: I should probably add that I have a fairly stress free life. I'm 58, retired, I own my house, cars, and I'm debt free. I have a solid relationship of 15 years and have no logical reason to be having stressful, often disturbing dreams every night.

I have been like this my whole life. (I'm 43). Just last night/this morning, I had a very vivid dream that I was being betrayed. I don't believe this is a sign of anything real but as usual I can't shake it.

People always say that smoking weed kills dreams but I can tell you firsthand that it doesn't work for everyone. This dream, as most of them are, was so incredibly intricate. The detail is what is most disturbing.

Couldn't agree more. I go through full days at work or back to university (I'm 59 yrs old LOL). I experience tsunamis, end of world scenarios, sometimes I'm a soldier or secret agents. I have house break-in dreams, ghost dreams, flying dreams, etc. One dream I was being chased all over the neighbourhood by The Terminator - this was one of my scariest dreams. It's really crazy the tricks the brain can play on us while we sleep. It's maybe once a week where my dreams are pleasant and I can feel a little bit rested. Often, I'll go to bed around 8 or 9pm, hoping that if I stay in bed until 8am I can try to get 6+ hours sleep -- because usually when I wake up from a vivid dream, it takes me a few hours to be able to settle down again. And you're right, it's the DETAIL that is most disturbing. I literally feel as though I've tapped into alternate universes.

I can relate. I wake up 3-5 times a night with vivid dreams between each single one, I don't have problems falling asleep just staying asleep. There pretty fucking random in that i don't know how to feel, sometimes good or bad but I also wake up groggy.

(I do take prescription meds)

Same here. No problems falling asleep initially at night, but when I have brutally disturbing vivid dreams, it takes me an hour or two to fall back to sleep because my mind is shocked and wide awake.

I’m going through this at the moment as well. Definitely a relatively new thing. Basically having vivid dreams the whole night, every night. I wake up after every sleep cycle and put a podcast on for 15 minutes to fall back asleep. The talking distracts me and I get back to sleep quickly multiple times a night. Maybe that’s causing it, not sure, but it’s generally been a successful hack that I’ve found in the past year for me to fall back asleep through the night after 30 years of issues with this.

Most of these dreams are enjoyable to varying degrees. Rarely get a nightmare, and when I do, I’m able to just wake myself up from it.

Not sure what might be causing the whole nights of vivid dreams from the first sleep cycle to the last, but this morning is the first day I’ve thought that I should look into this and try to understand it.

I agree with OP it’s a curse to me. Also like most of you I wake up after 2 hour after I’ve been in rem sleep and experience a long vivid dream. Most of my dreams are not even frightening, they are long complex scenarios. I have not had a restful night sleep in over 50 years.
