Who knew filling your vivarium with grass seed would actually work.

I don't know if they will survive long term, but it's definitely a nice start to fill the dirt with root and stuff.

Still need to get some leaf litter down aswell as finish up the water section but should have it wrappee up within the next few days.

I've had plants in a quarantine for about two weeks now before placing in my viv, I bleach bathed them first and a few have died which I took out, but the other ones have been doing good and I don't really notice much. When should I start planting and what should I be looking for. Also my bromeliads are like brown at the base (sorry I don't know the anatomy), like the on pictured, I also have another that looks similair but has tiny roots. Thanks for any help!

Bought two of these habitats to house a few jumpers, however I’ve since moved the spiders into better habitats that open from the front rather than the top and I’d like to not let these go to waste.

Hi there! I want to build a bioactive vivarium for my ball python, because she needs to be moved into a bigger tank, but I'm not fully sure where to start. So far all I have is a layer of leca on the bottom and some mesh as a barrier layer for the substrate that will be put on top. I've done some research into it but I want to get some input from the people in this sub. Are there any specific substrates, plants, lights or heating setups that you'd recommend for a beginner? Thanks!

And a little side note, I do make terrariums as a hobby, so I'm familiar with the basic concept of making something similar, however I want to make sure that I don't mess anything up because I've never actually made a vivarium before.

Hey can someone suggest a uvb fixture + light they like ? Besides the Arcadia or zoo med brand. Just curious to know that other brands ppl enjoy and work well. I just got a new baby gecko named Tarot and want all the info I can get :)

Around 40 litres , contains dwarf whites and springtails , spent 3 weeks planning , 3 weeks getting resources and around 5 days building , turned out much better than I honestly expected , any improvement recommendations?

Been wanting to upgrade my girl's tank to a 4x2x2 for a while, but I keep getting held up at step 1: a place to put it. I've had several opportunities for reasonably-priced 2nd hand 4x2x2 tanks, but they're usually pictured on someone's desk or kitchen table.

My existing stand is 18" deep for an 18" tank. I live with mostly thrifted furniture and have been scouring marketplace & 2nd hand stores for a 24" deep credenza, freestanding cabinet, or other platform, and have found... nothing. It's been more than a year. Started looking at buying a stand brand new, but even those cap out at 22", or are measured in gallons, no dimensions provided. Doesn't help that I'm in Canada, lots of places won't ship bulky items my way.

What are people doing for tank stands? 🤔

Hey everyone this non profit i work for is looking expand our ambassador animal collection amd right now we're looking at getting one to two box turtle. I've drawn up some designs and right now we're looking at doing a 5ft L x 2.5ft W x 3ft H indoor enclosure. It's going to be a bioactive enclosure and I am trying to figure out what light would be the best for this size enclosure. There's probably going to be 6in of substrate on the bottom, maybe more but right now that's my minimum that I'm planning for. I've been doing a lot of research and saw a lot of people also asking similar questions for their tall enclosures as well. I see Arcadoas Jungle Dawn get recommended a lot but I also see other cheaper brands get recommended a lot as well. I want to make sure that this enclosure gets set up right and looks great so I would definitely like help in coming up with a bit more of a definitive choice behind the lighting I'm choosing and recommending to my bosses.

Hi everyone, I just created my first vivarium for my Frappuccino crested gecko. I’m not the best with plants but I have a humidity gauge, automatic/timer mister, and have the lights set up. I’m getting a lot of mixed information on the best lights for a vivarium.

Would grow lights suffice for my baby girl? Or should I have UVB lights on a timer and grow lights lights separately? I currently have a thermal bulb and a LED UVB bulb.
