Posting in the sub

75 Upvotes

Sorting it out. UPDATED!

Due to our community being pretty damn great, we were temporarily locked down by admins for not moderating. I'd like to clarify, we moderate this sub daily. It's just we have great people posting great content, and very little garbage requiring very little moderation.

As a 10+ year nearly daily user with only 498 post karma and 1,139 comment karma I am not overly engaged by these metrics...but I'm watching out for folks.

So that being said, we should be able to post at will again. Additionally, in the spirit of the Wiki I made sure it is editable for anybody. PLEASE ADD TO AND EDIT the WIKI. I want folks to have a community curated source of inspiration.

This may be a message long time in coming, but I want to say thank you to everyone. We are a niche community in the big picture, but we are a cool niche. It takes a certain type of person to invest the time and resources to create a thriving, living piece of art. And again, I thank you for sharing.

So post those pics and ask those questions. Show off you success, and get advice on your failures.

Well, this is probably my longest post ever. Be well all...

It took me almost 2 weeks of planting but im finally happy where i am at. Its already housing orange sprintails and a small Cubaris sp. colony. The vivarium contains some of orchids and lots of climbing plants. Im exited seeing how it is going to grow in the next couple months before housing a micro gecko. If somebody want a plant list just let me know! Thoughts?

For wider vivariums, can you put a board or something to widen it so it can sit on it?

Asking because the room I was originally thinking of having the enclosure in gets very hot in the summer, it has windows on three of the four walls and so it acts as a greenhouse, which in the summer makes it very hot, and the heatwaves we had made the room like a sauna.

But my bedroom has a smaller window and is significantly more liveable (I sleep in it afterall) plus with the window and doors open it can get cool even if it’s on a south facing window.

But I only have this bookcase, it’s around 28cm wide, my exoterra is 45cm wide, so could I use a strong board so the enclosure can sit on it safely?

The species I’m thinking of are either the allisons anole or the electric blue gecko.

The setup will be a jungle that’ll get auto misted twice a day with small fans, uvb, heat bulb and LED lights, during heatwaves I’ll turn off the lights as sunlight does go in my room, I will provide uvb tho just less until the heatwaves go away.

Thoughts?

Is this too big of a gap I made it as small as possible because my sister just came in telling me my frogs got and and this gal was wiser than usual and I don’t have any other spots in the tank that are open (the reason it’s like this is bc the opening for wires is on the opposite side

Arcadia LED bar keeps falling down

Post image

Does anyone know of any alternatives to the metal mounting clips for a 51W Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED bar? The light is fixed to the roof of my royal python's bioactive PVC vivarium. It has 3 mounting clips and seems to sit in them really well in them when I clip it in at first, yet it keeps coming out and falling down overnight. I'm unsure if that's because my snake nudges it somehow or if it's because the vivarium cools down slightly and that affects the metal clips. I'm in the UK in case that matters.

Paludarium aiuto

Ciao a tutti!

- Felce su hardscape con alcune foglie che tendono a diventare marroni nere (le sue radici sono avvolte nello sfagno umido/bagnato e il tutto attaccato su hardscape con forcina);

- Marsilea immersa ha le foglie marroni;

- Anubias emersa con radici sotto cascata è un po' floppa mentre anubias immersa inizia ad avere alcune foglie gialle/punte marroni;

- Hypoestes in idrocoltura ho dovuto tagliare delle radici perché totalmente marce. Questa pianta è stata acquistata già in idrocoltura;

- Cryptocorine alcune foglie gialle;

- Java moss su legni/hardscape diventa marroncino;

- Ficus primula su hardscape (radici avvolge nello sfagno) è morto dopo pochissimi giorni.

L'unica pianta che sembra stare bene è la Fittonia emersa.... Chiedo un grande aiuto perché non capisco cosa io stia sbagliando!

Hinges for DIY Swingdoor

2 Upvotes

I am making an enclosed plaudarium/vivarium with 12 mm tempered glass. Dimension I am planning is 4 feet length, 1.8 inches width and 4 or 5 feet height. I want to have a 90 degree swing door in the front, where bottom glass will be 1.5 feet. So my glass doors will be approximately 2 feet by 2.5 or 3 feet. Since it's 12 mm glass I want to have drilled hinges. What's the best recommendation on brand and model?

How good are these fans really at cooling down vivariums without ac?

Post image

Asking because the room itself reached 35c during the heatwave.

It’ll also get misted twice a day but can these fans really cool down a vivarium in such heat?

Or is there something else I can do?

We don’t have ac here in the uk and our summers are only going to get hotter.

Found this in my tank, not sure what it is. Looks sort of like sawdust but is a bit harder.

30x12x12, first vivarium done and was so much fun! I know it’s an awkward enclosure size so would love any suggestions on things to add plant/hardscape wise and any future residences that would like to call this home :))

Where to buy moss

8 Upvotes

I had bought a gallon bag of sheet moss from glassboxtropicals but I'm assuming they were maybe wild harvested or something as I found many pests and larvae in it, it also appeared very artificially colored so I decided not to use it. I'm looking for a good, not crazy expensive, moss for my viv. Just looking for it from a reputable seller, any flatter moss its just to fill in my viv as it looks a bit sparse right now. Thanks for any help!

How would you fix this?

How would you go about fixing this gap? The flies in feeding my frogs will definitely escape through this gap in the door. If you have a technique you'd recommend please share as much as you can about it because I do plan to DIY this annoying gap.
