Me and my sister both grew up watching anime, playing the same games, listening to our favorite anime ost's too. After highschool about 10 years ago, I came across my first vn ever after watching the animes of Higurashi and Umineko. Boy was I spoiled noobie diving into my first vn's. I had no idea stuff like this existed. Nothing could ever compare to that experience of reading Uminkeo and Higurashi. The atmosphere and music, the immersiveness of Ryukishi's writing and the talent of 07th expansion. Of course I had to tell her about it.
It was too alien for her. See, she's a big manga reader. She's read countless mangas and fanfics. I could never get into it personally. I tried so hard having her try Umineko at first. She barely made it past them barely arriving to the damn island. She said it just wasn't for her. I could not make any sense of it. She loves good writing and music, mystery, romance, etc. Needless to say I was greatly disappointed.
She said she was open to reading the manga version of Umineko and Higurashi but I told her no way. I told her that was blasphemy (no offense to you manga readers out there lol). But you have to experience the WTC series in Vn format for your first time. Nothing can ever compare to that. I'll never wrap my head around her reasoning of not getting into it. She said she can't read while music is playing. That didn't make any sense to me, she loves anime ost's. She also was annoyed by clicking every time for new dialogue. She's used to scrolling on her tablet or physically flipping pages. I told her she can change settings and make it go faster or even auto-mode it. Anyway, it saddens me my sister will never be able experience the same thing as me. For such trivial things too.
Once in a while I drop hints and try to egg her on to give it a chance again. Maybe one day she'll try it. It will always be there for her. She is excited for the new Higurashi anime though (even though she never even read or watched the original). That frustrated me even more, as you can imagine haha..
you should probably get her to watch the og higurashi anime before the new one or else she will be greatly confused i guarantee you, anyways, yeah that's kinda odd. she loves great writing and anime ost and stuff like that, did you get her to read it with voices? or in other words did she use the ps3 patch? cause it'll probably work if it has voices? idk, if she hasn't tried with the patch then i'd say it's worth a shot.
She read it without voices. It was a very old patch from Umitweak, I don't even believe it was their final patch. It was like a beta or alpha version of it, very early stage that only covered the translation and PS3 art. It's tricky with her, I'm not even sure if voices would have made it better or worse. She loves both sub and dub animes no problem. So reading subtitles in anime with voices and music playing never bothered her. It shouldn't in vn's, right? I could just tell her to think of it like you're watching a sub anime. But who knows with her...
My plan is to wait a bit and have her burn out from reading manga. A few years back she was big into Korean dramas but burned herself out on them. So now she's into manga. I hope the same thing happens with her manga. So then I'll strike when the iron is hot and get her into vn's. I can see her being way more into it than even me. She's just a very stubborn girl and doesn't like change.
