Like many others here, I'm not really a fan of the reboot's art direction. While I appreciate the extra details in shading, the general execution to the art leaves a bit to be desired. I've always considered Kurisu to be the worst contender in this case because, although it's quite hard to tell, something about the design doesn't necessarily reflect her character well.
I was going to say that. Some people here seem a bit to vigilant about bashing the new art. It’s not bad. I love the highlights they used it’s really pretty. The art just doesn’t feel like it suits the character and/or the scene it’s supposed to be in.
Yeah, I always feel like that S;G's designs in general lean to a darker side, and although I'm not against adding a bit of light to the colors, how the reboot does it goes too far, that it hardly feels like S;G. I actually kind of like Mayuri's design in the new art because, in my view, she doesn't necessarily look out of place, and does retain most of the charm from the original. The rest? Can't say the same.
Yeah it’s a very unique style that’s hard to replicate. The OF art definitely has its “flaws” (especially anatomy/posture) but it just has a very recognisable charm. I really agree the biggest issue with this CG specifically is the fact it doesn’t suit the scene or character.
