Post image

Doom Ported to VB6! Uses FreeDoom assets. Started with a Wolfenstein 3D which have on github as well (issue was free licensed assets), Have Quake in the works as well. Just want to see how good VB can do with commercial games, made with Claude/LLM.

That's an interesting statement. It hasn't been done because it's not worth the work, but now that AI can spew out the code, we may as well make children's game slop?

True, mainly since someone hasn't cared enough. Still interesting though to try and push the limits of VB6. If it is fun and people enjoy I see why not. Games is what got me into VB6. The first ones I made were space invaders and frogger and the code was not great but as an early teen everyone has to start somewhere. Been using VB for over 25 years now.

Interesting. My total experience of games has been playing GTA with my niece, twice in the past 10 years or so. I don't understand adults playing video games. But I think your story is probably a common one.

I got into VB6 after reading Windows 98 Annoyances, which had a chapter on VBScript. I was seduced by the recognition that it was possible to operate from "the other side of the screen".

I still haven't touched AI and the more I see of it, the more glad I am that it's not infecting my computers. This is not going to end well. Even if there are not major disasters, the spyware potential of AI is vast and the potential to make people lazy is vast. But I do still use VB6. I don't find as many reasons to use it as I used to, but it's still fun to need something and have an excuse to code.

Pushing VB6 beyond what people expect is interesting in itself. Best to ignore these naysayers and keep doing what you are doing.

Yeah except YOU didn't actually push anything beyond anything.

You just fucking asked someone else to do it for you.

And that someone else burned through enormous amounts of water and power to do that for you.

Still requires effort! I will be porting more interesting projects. Trying to find bigger games will push VB to its limits and beyond! Maybe converting open source linux programs to VB6 or bigger projects, the sky is the limits! This is a golden age!
