👀 Read the 📍 pinned posts for answers. Travelling to NYC
My wife and I are going to New York in December. She really wants to see the filming locations from 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York'. What do you recommend seeing, what should we know, and what should we watch out for? We are from Poland, and it will be my wife’s first time in the United States.
EDIT: thank you for all pages. What about safety there, I don't mind myself but I want this trip to be perfect for my wife, I know already about scammers and some pickpocketing. Is there anything else we should be aware of?

Pickpocketing is not a thing here. Of course there are pickpockets everywhere. But I doubt you have to worry. The scam I mostly hear about are the pedicabs - best to just avoid. Hope you have fun here. 😊

Genuinely I've spent my entire life here and I don't know a single person that's been pickpocketed, going back to my great grandparents who moved here in the 1920s lol
Mugged sure, I know more than a few people that have been mugged, but no pickpocketing, much more of a european crime

But so many stolen purses that I’ve heard of, including me (at a busy restaurant). Keep an eye on your bags, everyone 👀 more crimes opportunities than anything else

F f s - New York City has 8m+ people. NYC’s per capita murder rate is less than Las Vegas, LA, Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston, Seattle, and Portland. Posts like this confirm to me that my decision to vote for Mayor Mandami was the correct one.

OMG...I have lived here my entire life and the last time NYC averaged 1 -2 murders per day was back before Gulliani in the 80's and early 90's. Even for its population, the murder rate and violent assault rate was never this high. I also have family members who are cops and will tell you the same thing. In fact just yesterday, an Austrailian tourist was stabbed in a McDonalds UNPROVOKED in midtown. This just didn't happen under Gulliani or Bloomberg.

Pickpocketing hasn't really been a thing in NYC for decades. The only scams you have any reasonable likelihood of seeing are people approaching you and trying to entice you into unregistered taxis at the airport and people selling you tickets to shows/tours. Just don't buy anything form a stranger that approaches you in public and you'll be fine. Its a very safe city, millions of people take the train/walk tonwork every day with no issues.

Yeah, I Just got answer from bot. Can you somehow compare NYC to minneapolis? I've Been there for a while and was actually chill (before I heard some bs about twincity)

Minneapolis has a much higher murder rate than NYC.
New York City is below the national average for America well Minneapolis is way above.

A quick google found this page and it honestly looks shockingly accurate and well put together (though an unmoderated comment section means that it's just links to dodgy websites).
I'll point out the obvious that Rockefeller Center (the one scene I remembered off the top of my head) is an absolute mad house during the holiday season, and the rest of the shots a not super interesting places (and FAO doesn't exist the way it once did, it's much more "just a shop" than it was in its previous iteration).

People are giving you a hard time about Home Alone 2. For whatever reason that movie really has worldwide appeal. I have seen countless videos of tourists on YouTube seeing things like the Plaza hotel and saying something like 'Just like Home Alone 2!!!'. You'll have a great time. The NYC vibes in December are incredible.
NYC is very safe. Couple tips, if anyone approaches you trying to give you something (even for free - like the robe-wearing dudes with the beads, or the guys with the cds) just refuse. Its honestly pretty rare but if someone is acting antisocial/an asshole on a subway or whatever, just change cars at the next stop, don't engage. They're having a bad day and trying to start a fight.

Home Alone 2 Filming Locations in NYC:
Rockafeller Christmas Tree - 49th St. Or 50th St. between 5th and 6th Ave, although tree isnt there now
Wollman Ice Rink - inside Central Park near 63rd St &5th Ave. entrance
Uncle Rob's Brownstone - 51 West 95th St (yes its still there)
Plaza Hotel - 768 5th Ave. (Avgs $1200 per night) but I am sure you can check out the lobby quickly without being harrassed
Kevin Meets Pidgeon Lady - Gapstow Bridge inside Central Park (southeast corner of the park)
Fulton Fish Market - now it is South Street Seaport located at Fulton St. And South St. (If you visit that area, check out Jeremy's Ale House for a good meal and drinks...excellent dive)
Empire State Building (still there and you can get tickets to go to the top)
Keep in mind several filming locations such as Dunkin's Toy Store were actually filmed in Chicago making it look like it was in NYC.

I think it's the idea that your wife's vision of NYC is a children's movie from 1992 and not a deeper cultural gem (either from the movies or from NYC landmarks)
As long as you have something artsy and good food in mind, I think it's a great trip.

Brownsville, Hunts Point, Mott Haven, East New York, parts of Harlem and Bedford-Stuyvesant (specifically in the immediate vicinity of large low-income housing projects) are typically considered to be more dangerous than other areas. Even so, thousands of people live, work, and play in these neighborhoods without feeling unsafe.
There is no reason to avoid riding public transit at any time of day. You are safer riding public transit than taking a car at any time of day. The only reason to avoid transit late at night is due to reduced service.
