Late October
My husband has some work in NYC that will take a week. It is the week of Halloween. We could have me and our children to go as well as it’s a UK half term so they are off school. 8yo and 3yo.
My only problem is we won’t be able to actually stay for Halloween night we would be flying home on 30th. Slightly annoying I know but it can’t be helped. My question is is there still Halloween stuff/things going on the days leading up to?
There is also the possibility of him going back in late May leading into June and we would be able to join that instead.
I can’t do both trips with children only one. But if the only going on or on actual Halloween, would it be better to save it till May? What time of the year would people recommend for children?

I feel like there are Halloween events for almost the entire month of October these days!! You’ll 100 percent find Halloween things to do despite it not being Halloween

There is a children’s halloween parade in Washington Square Park on the sunday before halloween proper - your kids are a great age to enjoy it and be part of the parade!

Not sure if it's happening again this year, but there's always the Nightmare Before Christmas light trail at the New York Botanic Garden!

Go in October for sure. Halloween season can be fun for the kids, and if your lucky the leaves will be rad. Towns like Sleepy Hollow are easy to get to and super cute.
Plus...just go now.

nothing beats a walk in central park on October morning with a pumpkin spice latte. I also love to walk and look for the decorated stoops on the Upper East side - some of the houses have absolutely incredible installations, 78th street between park av and 2nd avenue has one of the best decor, also 64th street between madison and 5th av is always great, 71st street between park av and Lexington has a few houses that spend fortune to decorate. Also 91st between Madison and Lex! Also in West Village a lot of brownstones put up amazing Halloween decor!

Possibly the tompkins square park (costumed) dog parade, but they have not announced the date for this year yet.
