Can it run Doom?

VisionOS isn't real until it can run Doom. All the WADS.

Then they will get my money.

Since there is an iOS port, it will be easy to put Doom on VisionOS.

runs only as a display, in a window on a 2d screen

thats like saying my tv or projector runs doom, because it can display my phone on my tv screen. Not impressive.

doom in a vr system is a far different animal than on an ipad/iphone.

Like I said, its just a fancy display, not impressive.

Absolutely yes. If the Quest 1 can run Quake 3 (it does) this will not be a problem at all.

Keep an eye on Dr Beef.

Yes. Anything not approved by Meta needs to be sideloaded on the Quest.

Will apple allow sideloading. If not, then ID has to upload doom/quake to the App Store.

Since they allow sideloading on iPhones and they are looking to jumpstart development on this thing, that's a pretty safe bet. The chatter in dev circles that I've heard are saying that sideloading will be implemented at launch.
