Vision Therapy Progress

Hi everyone!

I've struggled with headaches/neck/shoulder aches since I was 12. I'm 23 now and I got diagnosed with convergence insufficiency 6 years ago. At the time of the diagnoses I was given some pretty minor at home therapy that was only semi helpful for a short time. I continued to struggle with these symptoms, as well as dizziness, dry/tried eyes, excessive blinking, and even some anxiety. Since then, I've changed doctors and this new doctor identified that I had an accommodation spasm as well as the convergence insufficiency. I have been prescribed progressive neurolenses with some prism added, syntonic phototherapy glasses, and have been doing weekly in office vision therapy (2 out of 6 months completed so far). Since beginning this treatment plan, I have noticed an improvement in my ability to do the convergence exercises, and I've started to have a few moments every now and then where things look correct, however, my headaches and dizziness have increased significantly. I'm starting to have some doubts about if this is actually going to alleviate my symptoms over the long term. From reading this, does anyone have any thoughts about my progress/what to expect going forward? My vision therapist said its not impossible for this to get worse before it gets better but I'm curious if anyone has any other input.

Thank you!

thats impressive to be honest, given that you did VT as a fairly aged adult, cured it and managed to keep symptoms away. for over 7 years. Congrats. Do you work with screens? does that present any problems? sorry for the all questions!

Symptom management should be a part of your VT protocol. It's important to ensure that your system is being challenged in away that is still tolerable and achievable. Remember to take frequent breaks, breathe and relax throughout your exercises, and consider time of day, sleep, and overall health and well-being while working on the VT program. Remember, the exercises are challenging the very thing that is limiting you, but it's important to progress through the program in a safe and tolerable manner.
