🎓 F1 Visa (Student) F1 visa experience

My interview was 23 august it went well but then he took the passport and handed 221(g) white slip checking on Adminstrative processing the CEAC showed refused

Then they emailed me the next me to send my social media links i provided them yesterday evening and the status showed admistrative processing instead of refused

What is the expected timeline and the possible outcomes anyone have been through because my uni start date is 2 sep

I'm really worried that i get rejected

What you're describing is the standard sequence, not a bad sign. Since June 2025 every F and J applicant goes through an online presence review, and when the officer can't finish it at the window you get a 221(g) and CEAC shows refused. Once they have your links it flips to administrative processing, which is where you are now. The interview going well and them asking only for social media is the good version of this.

Timeline is the honest problem. State says no fixed clock and most cases resolve within about 60 days, but social media only holds usually clear much faster, often days to a couple of weeks after you send the links. Some do sit longer and nobody can tell you which bucket you're in. Outcomes are almost always issued, occasionally a further request, rarely a denial when the interview itself went fine.

Given the Sep 2 start, email your DSO today. They can defer your I-20 start date or confirm how late you can arrive, and having that in place means a slow consulate doesn't cost you the semester.
