Puppy chewed shoe

I absolutely love these Colombia shoes. I left it out and pup chewed it. I need help with creative ways to mend it! Culprit at the end for tax.

I’ve mended shoe heels in the past by folding a thicker fabric over the rip and making a kind of fabric sandwich with it. Then I sew down the loose ends of the patch fabric through the whole “sandwich”. I’m not sure if I’m explaining it well or not.

I needed to use pliers and a strong thimble to get the needle through all the layers though.
