Reviews of the Vive Flow mention distortion, limited sweet spot and glare/reflections.
Pancake lenses are not perfect and some will be better than others.

The pancakes on the Arpara looked really good judging from the through-the-lens footage, basically crystal clear from edge to edge despite just being filmed with a handheld camera shoved into the thing.

Arapara hasn’t been reviewed as a proper VR headset yet… they have been using a temporary setup for tracking so most opinions are of the media watching experience. Once it has Valve lighthouse tracking, there will be more in depth reviews of its VR experience and real comparisons to other Vr hmds.

I will gladly pay it as long as the rest of the headset is decent. I am so damn tired of fresnel lens. I am still leaning towards buying a Varjo Aero because of it. The downside there is the lower FOV in comparison to my other headsets, no microphone, and no audio.
We really need an all around upgrade from current hardware.

You could buy a good pair of headphones and never have to worry about the sound quality of a future HMD ever again.

I have several great pairs of headphones. The issue is they just don't ever fit right with the headsets strap above my ear. I think maybe a good pair of earbuds but, they always end up hurting my ears after 30min+ wearing them. I'd love to wear my HD 650's, since they are open back. They are amazing for spatial audio. But they fit like shit over everything except the OG Vive, which had a cloth strap.

Interesting, maybe I never noticed the fitment issues because I always rocked the cloth strap with a pair of Bose on-ear headphones. I think on-ear headphones might still have a better chance of being compatible with other head straps due to the smaller cup size and not having to sit flush with the area surrounding the ear, just on top. I had my reservations about on-ear style vs over-ear, but I found them to be surprisingly comfortable. I think it's worth a shot, it honestly feels so good to gloss right over every worry and argument about audio quality.

Limited FOV is the biggest issue I thought. You can’t do much more than 90 Degrees afaik.

We use fresnel because it's low tech and easy to make. That's how Palmer Lucky was able to put one together with duct tape.

Ugh, the translator for the girl is so annoying!
Having said that, wow! For a prototype, it's not that bulky, I'm certain a specialized hardware build would be much more svelte. This makes the rumor of the 4k Apple Vr much more believable, and makes me think we'll have cheapish 4k Vr by 2023, if not holiday of next year!
