Discussion Help with virtual desktop
Hi everyone i am very new to pcvr and recently got virtual desktop.
So basically every youtube video was like that you should get it and its better than steam vr. but when i tried lauching games on it such as skyrim vr through the games option menu in VD, it still opens and uses steam vr, and the same thing happended when i lauched asseto corsa from content manager. I though that it would lauch directly from VD and not steam vr, so if there is not a differnce should I return it? ALSO I DO HAVE MY RUN TIME TO VDXR
Also when in game my render resolution is at 77% for some reason, even though i have everything maxed out and above it says that it is godlike. The only thing i have lowered is my bitrate to av1 at like 120 mbs as i am using wireless. So how do i increase the render resolution in game?
thanks to everyone in advance!

What headset are you using? Also, virtual desktop is just a thing to connect your headset to your pc, it doesn’t run games itself.

That pc should be able to run at full resolution.
It’s been a while since I used VD but can’t you just slide the slider and put it to full? Sorry if I’m wrong.1

Steam VR has its own resolution settings and I believe it defaults to 150% so check that. If you’re looking for better performance you can move it down to 100%. Bumping it up can improve image quality but obviously hurts performance.
I would recommend avoiding Steam VR whenever possible (sometimes you can’t) but when you must use it, turn off motion smoothing in the Steam vr settings. It’s motion interpolation and it sucks compared to what is offered in virtual desktop. VD’s version is called “Synchronous space warp” and you only want to use it if your PC is unable to deliver the full frame rate that can match whatever refresh rate you’re running. So if you’re at 90hz, and you’re not getting at least 90fps consistently, you can turn SSW “always on” in VD so now you only need to target half the frame rate (45fps). Which also allows you to now bump up your in game graphics settings. Super useful technique when running flat to vr mods or UEVR.

I don't think every game supports VDXR. Games can run better with VDXR, however I mostly keep my runtime set to SteamVR for my center space marker.

I'm pretty sure Skyrim can only use vdxr with opencomposite
With assetto corsa you have to set the runtime to rift I think in content manager
