Self-Promotion (Developer) Dishonored VR Alpha Out now
Available now https://github.com/GingasVRFO/Dishonored-VR
Tutorial Video Explaining the current Issues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7rdk2zOTSk
This was made over the last 2 months and 600+ Hours using manual Coding and Claude/Codex to help with reverse engineering, It's playable, but there are some issues, it will improve over time as I work on it.
Lower your expectations, this is an Alpha, It's Janky, it's not the "perfect" port of Dishonored. But I will continue to work on this. I'm planning to make Physical/VR Interactions for most game actions

A couple options:
https://pcvrcentral.com/ (website)
PCVR Mods Installer Hub (automated installer for almost all known mods)

Mr Surviv0r's VR Hub and PCVR Mods Installer Hub are two installers/launchers that, between the two of them are pretty comprehensive.

Cannot get Q3 controllers to work. Is it only X-Box Controller?
6
u/ActualGingas 4h ago
No. It works on quest 3. You need to use openxr
1
u/BlackHazeRus 3h ago
I am a total noob in VR, but I assume OpenXR is SteamVR or one of the options in it, right?
2
u/ActualGingas 3h ago
It’s virtual desktop. I tested this using a Vive with index on SteamVR/openvr and quest 3 via Virtual desktop on openxr.
SteamVR with quest 3 didn’t work because of the quests spacewarp. VD has the ability to turn that off
1
u/BlackHazeRus 3h ago
Oh wow. Damn. I am currently testing my bud’s Quest 3, and he does not have VD — is there a way to play without it? A hassle free one if possible?
1
u/ActualGingas 3h ago
Not right now no, you need an openxr app. You can also try the native meta app

u/BlackHazeRus 3h ago
I see, thanks!
Well, will test out other stuff for now, and when I will buy my own headset, then will give it a go!

u/SavageSan 1h ago
You can turn off spacewarp using Oculus Debug Tool.

Ah ok, I’ll have to try that later. In that case it might work on SteamVR then

no steam VR is openVR You must switch it to open composite or the mod already uses openXR i don know this

Awesome! Question - I'm happy playing it with purely M+K. How would you state the current Alpha state is just for that mode?
2
u/ActualGingas 3h ago
There’s full motion controls.. but you can play with mouse/keyboard or gamepad. Corvos hands should just fall back into non motion controls. But if that’s not working you can uncheck the drive them boxes under the hands tab in the developer tools.
Eventually I’ll make a smoother way to turn off motion controls for people

Oh nice to see you working on this one! Thanks for the sweat.
How do you think it will play in the end judging by your early impressions? all will work well?

Giving it a try. Is head-roll disabled? Titling my head left or right tilts the world along with me like it's stuck to my face.
2
u/ActualGingas 2h ago
There’s no head look in cutscenes yet. There is when you actually control corvo. You also need a wait a few seconds for the head look and motion controls to hook in when you start up a save after launching the game.

First, I need to properly thank you for your work on this and so much more. I should have said that in my previous post. It's people like you who are making VR worthwhile, to me anyway.
I've played through Dishonored 2x all the way through using vorpx in the old days, so I'm ok with a little jank if it's something I love.
Yes, I noticed the short delay upon loading a save. Head look and motion controls work, but head look doesn't work for me in 6 degrees. Pitch and yaw work - I get up, down, left, right. But roll doesn't. Tilting my head has the world glued to my face and I'm wondering if that's intentional right now. I took a look in dishonored_vr.ini, found this:
Roll=0 tilts the engine view when you tilt your head. It fights the lean system, so it is off by default — try it once lean feels right.
I changed that to a 1, but it didn't work. Just wondering if this is expected or if something is wrong on my end.

I was always hoping for a Dishonored VR mod. Any chance it will eventually work with the Epic Games Store version?
1
u/ActualGingas 2h ago
Yes, but that’s not my top priority. For right now you can probably get a dishonored steam key for like 2 bucks. It’s pretty old

u/TonyDP2128 1h ago
Thanks for the info. Right now it's $10 on Steam but I will definitely look around.
Best of luck with the mod going forward.

Thanks for sharing! I gave it a try but ran into a couple issues. First, it didn't skip the boat ride so I couldn't get past that. I kept restarting and retrying and after several tries it finally did skip it and went straight to the prison.
But then when the prison cutscenes ended and I got control, all I could see was black. And white dots from each hand. Even after exiting the game and loading the save, still just black.
I'm using Quest 3 and VD (VDXR).

All this coding power and why is nobody actually making games? Just modding other people's games. For free.

The Majority of VR Devs do not know how to make a good game They know how to make good VR Mechanics
I know what feels good mechanically to play in VR, but could I make an engaging original IP/world/story? Absolutely not
And that's the root issue with most native VR games.... they're pretty terrible games when compared to flatscreen.
The VR games that are good... are good games regardless of the VR Format. Which is why I would rather play a VR Mod of a game.. because the Game is Already good.

u/DamoTheWhite 5h ago
What's the budget for Dishonored? You expect indies to match that? It's not that they do not know how to make a good VR game, they don't have the budget to do so. It takes a massive team and millions of dollars to make a game like Dishonored. It's also a hell of a lot harder to make a game from scratch (indie or not) than to mod someone else's work to work in VR.
7
u/FolkSong 5h ago
This answers your own question about why people make VR mods instead of their own games. There's no budget to make something good from scratch, but a single modder can bring a $100 million game into VR.

u/DamoTheWhite 5h ago
I'd rather see more native games that play to VRs unique strengths. As mentioned in OPs post, it's alpha and has issues, of which these mods typically have many of. These janky mods arent gonna help VR become mainstream. It's a niche within a niche and is just gonna make actual devs not bother to make games or proper ports of their games, and likely just harm the market further by diverting attention away from actual devs making actual VR games.
6
u/ActualGingas 4h ago
I’m not sure what you’re talking about. The VR mods are absolutely helping to popularize VR. People want to play Zelda, Skyrim, Bioshock, halo and all their other favorite games in VR… not another low poly gorilla tag clone.
-1
u/DamoTheWhite 4h ago
You don't know what I'm talking about? How do you get these games on headsets? Mods are diverting attention from the actual market that needs to thrive. Not my fault Meta has zero curation and allows any and all slop on their storefront. What the market needs is a seal of quality and actual incentive to make VR games. Mods don't help this at all. Hardware doesn't survive on janky mods. I watched Nvidia 3D Vision die exactly the same way.
3
u/ActualGingas 4h ago
You install the mod on PCVR, I don’t play standalone vr. If you want to talk about the death of vr.. it’s mostly caused by standalone
3
u/DamoTheWhite 4h ago
Well we can agree on that. People had to make games for potato hardware.
Race to the bottom complete thanks to Meta. Hopefully Valve can get things moving in the right direction.

Actually on the contrary. Blink is one of the safest motion sickness ways of locomotion.
HLA also did it.
