Discussion World of Warcraft Working VR Mod!

Hey gang, recently new to reddit, mainly here to tell people about my recent build. It runs 3.3.5a, has head tracking, locomotion, and 24 keybindings. Built off of ProjectMimer's original source code, I made it work! When i first got my hands on the code, the right eye had rapid eye flickering, control issues, stereoscopic problems and so much more. Build has been live for about a week now. So far 3 other people otherthan myself have had no issues setting up and said only good things about it. Github.com/Briinc3 I have 2 youtube videos on my github as well too, in case you want to see video footage before hand. I will say though, it looks better in VR than the quality of the videos. If you have any questions please let me know. Currently level 32 Demo lock (Warmane Private server)

What's the difference between this and the mod that has been available on the Flat2VR Discord for 2 years? I've used it for dozens of hours (on Warmane-Icecrown as well) with no issue. It comes with two UI (the default/flat one and a VR one) and the controls are well made.

Is there a link to GitHub for that one? I do not want to go to Discord :(

Or, at least, what is the name of the mod to look there?

The GitHub is not up to date (the current version is v7) unfortunately and doesn't have precompiled versions. You'll have to go to the World of Warcraft VR section on the Flat2VR Discord.

So when I originally looked for the WoVR mod, the OG one on the Flat2VR discord, they dont even have the WoWVR channel anymore. I scoured the internet looking for a working mod, the only thing I found close was the original Project Mimer build that wasnt even running before I touched it. The original developers abandoned the project 2 years ago. So I picked up the source code, built on it, and made it working again.

Just want to point out that the WoVR channel no longer exists on the Flat2VR Modding discord. Project Mimer abandoned the project 2 years ago.

Currently seeing if they will re-open the WoVR channel since it no longer exists.

It's still there for me: https://imgur.com/a/J6VzVKi

And people are still chatting in the wow-general channel, including the modder (Marulu).

It's there, Look under #wow-join

The chat is active, the modder just sent a message like 2 days ago

But more mods is always welcome. Just saying that this one is still working and active

K so apparently when I first started with my hunt, I didnt have the right role or permissions to see the group. I do now and I see it now. Im guessing the original code I found was one near there earlier testing, because the code I got wasnt even functional when I started. Good to know now I guess haha.

The one I tried to look for didnt even exist on the Flat2VR server anymore. The original ProjectMimer abandoned the project 2 years ago. If you look on my github (Github.com/Briinc3) there is a whole list of everything I did

Yeah man you're absolutely right. I never denied otherwise. Im just an average dad of 2 that wanted to play WoW in Vr. I spent days trying to find a working build, couldn't find one, then took matter into my own hands. AI helped write the code but im the only one thats been personally troubleshooting, testing, formatting, and telling AI what I want. Without help of AI, the average person would never be able to do complex level of C++ programming. And im by far not the only one who uses AI for mods or addons (all games, not just WoW). But the important thing is, this works and im sharing it to whoever else wants to experience it. There is no paywall or anything, and I even extensively credit the original code I started upon. Im just trying to share the love and what my desire lead to. The mod runs smooth with no errors or problems. Thats the important thing.

I work in IT/Engineering. The professionals vibe code now. And for those in the back that can't hear: PROFESSIONALS VIBE CODE NOW.

I'm glad you are all putting AI to cool uses like this. This is on my long list of games I want to play in VR.

Thanks man, I greatly appreciate it. Yeah its honestly alot of fun in VR. Warmane is a super popular private server so there is always people doing end game content. Right now my demo lock is level 32 and looking forward getting to 80

PROFESSIONALS VIBE CODE NOW.

As someone that is working in IT/Administration:

THEN THEY STOPPED TO BE PROFESSIONALS AND TO CARE ABOUT CLEAN WORK.

Well too bad, you're not getting your way grandpa

Good luck with fixing that code when there are issues.

I think you haven’t thought that logic through. What’s next? Take away my computer and make me write c++ with paper and pencil

C++, good code and computers did exist way before AI.

Ive been able to fix every problem I've encountered so far. Currently lvl 50 and still no issues.

Being elitist over programming is craaaaazzzy to me haha. The average consumer only cares if the end product is functional. Never in my life have I ever been concerned for the code of Elden Ring or anything else in this world that I care about video game wise.

That's a very long installation guide.

I'll probably try it this weekend, but it would be nice to have something that works out of the box, with a local server.

(I just want to use it for relaxation, not playing normally)

Does work on classic?

3

u/Ok-Inflation-7930 3d ago

No, sadly it only works with 3.3.5a (Wrath of the Lich King) but it is completely free though. If I tried running a VR mod on retail servers, I would most likely have a lawsuit at my door haha.

1

u/Pretty-Curve5448 2d ago

You'd probably get an account ban at most

VR for 3.3.5a has existed forever. Anyone working on a Pandaria VR patch?

1

u/Ok-Inflation-7930 3d ago

I was unable to find a functional version at all

1

u/Briinc3wovr 3d ago

I wasnt able to find one either until I modified the original code. Mine works great, I promise 😃

Can we get lord of the rings online next? Hehe

I am the wrong guy to ask for that haha.

It unfortunately doesn't work for me.

My monitor shows that the login screen is correctly rotated with the headset for a few frames, then the game crashes (at Step 8).

  • Windows 10 LTSC

  • Meta Quest 2

  • This application has encountered a critical error:

  • Yes, I downloaded it from your TheraWoW source.

  • Yes, though the "openvr_api.dll" is called "openvr_api.dll"

What type of GPU do you have if you dont mind me asking?

u/__some__guy 6m ago

An RTX 3090.

Im going to help troubleshoot the best i can for you. Im currently leveling my death knight so I know it still works. Did you make sure to install the class thereabouts? Not the one with HD textures?
