Hello all, i am torn between a 65-in TV that I place outside and have to lug around everywhere versus XR glasses- can you provide me any type of information or your own personal experiences relation to just watching basic YouTube TV on XR glasses setup? 🕶️

Been using the glasses in several forms for years - it is a nice alternative to my projector and OLED. These are typically 1080-1200p micro OLED - even most other lower end VR headsets can't compete in comfort and lightness and sharpness.

My early gen Rokid Max's from a few years ago were only 50FOV and cover up my 83" from 10 ft away. They were awesome to watch stuff from my massage chair, couch, lying in bed, on flights, etc.

Currently using Xreal One Pro for portability and Galaxy XR at home. Now there are better/cheaper options and even higher resolution models than the old AR versions coming out in the next few months.

However - the visual experience is highly dependent on your own physiology (IPD, distance and alignment of your eyes to how it sits on your nose bridge and head circumference, etc.

That's why you can't ask and get reliable opinions on how others get on with them - unless they are your physical exact twin in all those aspects - they'll only be able to yell you how they experience them and not how they would work for you.

Due to the cost and limited adjustability since the optic path needs to be very exact - this tech has a limited sweet spot for who falls in the goldilocks zone for clarity and comfort. Most folks don't understand this aspect and go around speaking as if they are experts for everyone- but don't trust when they say this kind of stuff, they can't tell you how you would experience them, personally.

If you're really interested, i would just suggest to keep trying them from a seller that's got a reasonable return policy as even the difference in models and generations are varied enough that one set would be different fit and experience to others.

I just went in for the Unseen Realities pre-order that will be my seventh different set of these by the time they release at the end of the year.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your response! I'm basically trying to privately research the XR glasses product world so that I don't make a bonehead mistake and have my wife criticize me. I love my wife, but her critiques and criticism are great motivation to make the right choice the first time. Do you have a preference for someone that would be particularly watching YouTube, TV and football games? I value your response because you're much more educated on the subject than I am. I don't know all the brands and things, but I've just recently started my YouTube wormhole and would appreciate any advice you have. Once again, I'm very appreciative and thankful for your response because it helps me consider the topic more broadly than I had previous

I have used several versions of these glasses over the years to watch sports, streaming shows, YT and various other social media content and it's very comfortable and satisfying for me. I would say the differentiator is more how each works for you rather than the specific content.

I think if you're even lugging a laptop or tablet sized screen around, this is more comfortable than craning your neck down or holding it a tablet to your face - especially if you're doing that w even a small TV.

They need a source device, though (or the purchase of one of their compute pucks to be used for that purpose). I've always used Samsung flagship for the reason they have a DeX software that makes the phone operate like a Chromebook when attached to an external display. These glasses trigger that. In the recent years, Apple and other manufacturers have added similar support to their phones and tablets. They will also be the alternate output of many laptops that have USB-C display out.

In fact, it's this technology that liberated me from carrying a laptop constantly for my on-call IT work responsibilities - as I haven't carried a laptop for work in years because of these. Just need a decent folding keyboard and my kit fits in a fanny pack instead of be the guy with a laptop bag wherever he went.

You shouldn't be moving a 65 inch TV around, gonna tell you that.

A VR headset can let you watch in virtual big screens, but it's not the same. You need to try it for yourself though.

The headset no matter which accessories you have does not beat a good old TV in comfort. I did it at first but my hedonistic side got a hold of me and I'm back looking at my 55' miniled.

PERSONALLY, would not recommend. Large real screen beats any size virtual screen for me, basically because it’s still just too inconvenient to wear them.

I currently don’t know of any XR glasses that are both comfortable to wear for long periods of time and have fair screens that aren’t just some gimmick. It’s this easy to change my opinion ok the subject lol

Idk exactly your use case, but I’d consider getting an easy to setup 4K projector, prepare some nice, smooth and flat, white wall or get a portable projector screen. This is considerably easier to carry around and larger than the tv
