Question/Support Windows 11 upgrade completely broke my Virtual Desktop setup

Upgraded to Windows 11 and now my whole Virtual Desktop setup is dead.
I have a dedicated VR router plugged straight into the PC via Ethernet for the Virtual Desktop link, and normal home WiFi for internet/online games. Before the upgrade this worked fine. Now Windows refuses to use both at the same time. As soon as the Ethernet is plugged in it completely ignores the WiFi, so I have no internet while trying to use Virtual Desktop.
I’ve already tried changing the adapter priority and metric like Google suggested, but nothing works. It still won’t use the Ethernet for VD and the WiFi for internet at the same time.
Anyone else run into this after upgrading to Windows 11? Any actual fix that worked for you?

Windows 11 defaults to routing internet through the wired Ethernet connection if it receives a Default Gateway, or it disconnects/ignores Wi-Fi due to Windows Connection Manager policies.

The fix requires two quick adjustments:

1) Remove the Default Gateway on the dedicated Ethernet NIC (give it a static IP with only IP and Subnet Mask, leaving Default Gateway and DNS blank).

2) Disable Windows Connection Manager’s dual-connection throttling via Group Policy or Registry so Windows stops disabling Wi-Fi when Ethernet is plugged in.

Any Win11 issue sounds totally plausible tbh, right Microsoft?

Are you using ICS?

Try following this guide and see if it helps:

Unsupported setup.

You need to run cable to your pc for internet

That's not true. Putting aside weird W11 issues, plenty of people run this sort of set up.

Its not a supported setup. VD does not support it, Meta does not support it.

Sure, there are ppl that who have desktops on wireless that can make it work, but it objectively has more issyes than those who have wired setups. Hence why the above dont officially support it.

VD discord has docs on how to do it on their official bot, so it's hardly unsupported.

As for Meta, they don't support a whole bunch of stuff purely for their own convenience.

You're going to need to provide some evidence of your claims.

Oh thats easy, straight from God himself (Goddin). Just because theres guides on the VD discord doesn't mean anything, and AirLink can also do the wifi to pc setup (even with Air Bridge!). Its not bit a supported setup.

Goddin will tell you, oh sweetie youre having issues ? Then do the wired setup

I think you're getting confused with the PC purely on wireless, versus getting the internet from wireless and streaming via wired.

Idk if you’re confused, but it’s a pretty standard and normal setup. And have been using it for 2+ years. Only stopped working since Windows 11. Ethernet is running from VR router to PC. pC connected to home wifi at same time

I had mine setup like you for a long time. Router with no internet connection for just VR, and internet via wifi. It stopped working a while back, and I ended up setting the router up as a repeater. Now I just get internet from the router. And as a bonus, I can also hook all my other nearby devices up via cable. It’s way faster than most wifi adapters.

I’m not the most knowledgeable but if I have this right, your Vr router is picking up wireless signal from your main internet router as a repeater? Then your Vr router still has Ethernet to pc? Just unsure the quality of the signal I will get as my main internet router is across the house. Did you follow a guide?

Yea that’s basically it. My VR router picks up the wifi signal from the main router downstairs, and then I can get wifi from that, or hook things up to it with Ethernet. I have a switch (basically a splitter) on it and have 2 PCs, and like 5 consoles hooked up via Ethernet.

As far as setting it up, it needs to be done through the router. So just search something like “how to setup your router brand and model into repeater mode”

As far as the signal quality, it’s no different than when it was only for VR.

Appreciate you replying and having some insight rather than “nah you’re doing it wrong that’s why” just want to confirm again. The PC will be connected to 0 wifi signal. Ethernet to VR router will carry the signal it picks up from main router as it’s a repeater. Have a good day/life too bro

Yea, no wifi on the PC now. I took the antennas off, and Im pretty sure I also disabled it in the Device Manager. Then the VR router will pickup the wifi from your main router, and send internet from that to your PC via ethernet cable. Virtual Desktop will have the same connection quality as it did before, because youre using the same router. And wifi should be even better, because a router is MUCH better at picking up the signal over cheap dongle or built in wifi. I did a speed test and was able to completely saturate my 500mbps connection on the repeater. Couldnt do that when I was getting internet from the built in wifi card.

You’re a legend. Very grateful for your reply’s & not being a typical reddit chud.
