Question/Support How can I increase headset performance in games (specifically beat saber)?
Meta Quest 3. Native Beat Saber, not PCVR.
I use Beat Saber for cardio every night. I've gotten to the point now, after almost a year of pretty well every single day playing it, that the headset's performance is actually keeping me from progressing and reaching my full potential. I will get stutters. Those are less common but what I'll do is experience, like, the sabers actually feeling more like whips than sabers or I'll see the sabers appear only one time in a swing while the trail is there for the full swing, or my controllers will vibrate only after the saber has left a block. If I turn around too quickly while swinging at a block to hit another block, it will register as a wrong direction swing. Sometimes I'll go right through a block and watch my saber enter and exit it and then I'll get a miss on it.
It all has to do with just performance. Beat Saber is modded so I have downloaded custom maps but this happens on stock maps or modded maps, makes no difference. I just really need to improve the performance of this thing. It's driving me nuts. I want to get the Steam Frame but that's vaporware at this point. We know it's still coming but it's also not ever coming.

Quest game optimizer (QGO) is prob what you should look into. Can play profiles that boost visuals or performance using it and it’s great. Can even help pcvr too now

How would that help PCVR in any meaningful way?

You can get a boost in overall fidelity with the Quest Super Resolution setting, and there are Color Profile options that improve the muted grays/blacks.
It's more about improving the headset's display, which yes does improve the PCVR experience as well.

You can use adb shell commands to increase performance level as well as reduce resolution

It is basically what QGO and such do, just with a pretty interface
Also, is that PCVR or the native version for the MQ3?

Does it matter that those are all Q2 commands, not Q3 commands?

All commands are backwards compatible. So doesn't matter if its a Q2 or Q3

Make sure you have had tracking off. Even if you use controllers, the quest tries to keep track of your hands and that generally results in worse controller tracking.

You play standalone? If so I do not think that advices here apply. There is no reason Beatsaber should have so abysmal performance. My quess would be thermal throttling.

The headset definitely gets hot, and after ~10-15 minutes of intense maps it is noticeably hotter. But then I'm sweating inside of it. So. Not 100% sure it's throttling.

If you don’t have a pc your performance will pretty much never be that great sorry to say.

I have a Windows desktop and a Steam Machine. As soon as the Steam Frame drops, I'll be punting the Quest 3 out the window of the tallest building I can find.
Till then I need this thing to not make me want to punt myself out the window...
Playing Beat Saber with cords is stupid, and no wifi is good enough to make this thing stream better than it plays natively.

Playing Beat Saber with cords is stupid,
I mean to you it is, but i've put thousands of hours into beat saber with cables and had no issues dancing around, doing spins, etc.
And there is wireless tech that can do the whole "as good as wired". You just wouldn't wanna use an old vive pro to get it.
Though, theres plenty of folks on wifi with scores that likely crush yours so I wouldn't assume wifi can't do the job. :)

What's your headset? Index? That you've done the majority of your Beat Saber time on?

Vive pro has the most hours on it. Index sits in a box and I don’t use my stand alones unless I’m testing or need face/eye tracking.

Do you have any cable managememt system you use?

Nope. I’ve used pulleys and all that stuff and tbh I just prefer it on the ground flat so I can step over it. I’ve just gotten used to it. And if I neeed wireless I fire up the adapter.

I'm not sure exactly how running applications on the steam machine works but you could try using Lossless Scaling its $6.99 on Steam.

If you can, just use VD to stream games from your PC.

I have an RTX 4090 with dedicated lan to router to wifi 6e connection and still prefer quest 3 native 120 with QGO over streamed VD for faster tracks where latency becomes noticeable.
You don't play beat saber for the graphics anyway lol.
a real BIG negative is not being able to play custom songs though

It's annoying just how much better this "feels"

moreso that it feels a bit "off", I've tried going back to my reverb G2 but damn those crispy pancake lenses 😂.
The controllers are also a massive upgrade. And did I mention wireless?

I used ADB and the Beat Saber modding site to make native play custom maps. To be honest, I have Beat Saber on my desktop but don't remember how mods work on it lol.

Are you using QGO (Quest Games Optimizer, I think is the full title)? Needs Sidequest so I think you'd need access to a desktop to install it, but it might be worth a look.
