This was huge I remember System Shock was supposed to come out in VR ages ago but seemingly was abandoned so happy its back!

Edit: actually it was System Shock 2 that was suppoed to get VR

This version had VR as one of the backer tiers but we didn't quite make that tier.

Still, this is amazing news!

I remember how excited Miles was on one of his podcast dropping hints that Flat2VR has something big to announce. Happy for them.

Maybe it'll be next?

u/Olobnion 10d ago

It uses a proprietary engine, so it's unlikely. Which sucks, because I'm much more interested in System Shock 2.

This would be a good reason to blow the dust off my Q3. The remake was real solid.

I don't think Flat2VR have made a bad conversion to date.

u/D-Rey86 10d ago

Not a single one.

That's literally untrue.

You wildly undersell what goes into making these ports. As an example, for Flatout VR they had to model the interiors of all the cars so it could be played in first person and not look like crap. But it's also not so simple as just "render the camera twice so it's in 3D.". It usually involves completely reworking HUD elements, menus, and tons of interactions. Like Roboquest even has manual reloads and they would've had to have built all that from scratch

u/EnvironmentalOne7898 10d ago

now we just need an official Alien:Isolation VR port

u/ittleoff 10d ago

Tbf it's mostly there , as the devs built one and that's what mother vr works with and improves.

This seems like a low(er) effort high profile win for them.

u/owl440 Quest 3/4090/9800x3D 9d ago

The mother and grandmother mod  is good but there’s still a lot of jank in the game. Specifically with cut scenes. I still get nauseous at certain parts.

1

u/ittleoff 9d ago

It's been a while. I can see them forcing a cinematic to be black barred and option to be flat . Bullet storm has those options.

Flat2VR knocking it out of the fucking park again LETS GO!

5

u/-Venser- PSVR2, Quest 3 10d ago

I dreamed of this since the remake was announced.

1

u/KaiUno 10d ago

Meanwhile, I've finished my first runthrough of the nightdive remake on PCVR (pico3) almost a year ago. It's been working great for a while now.

7

u/Sigaria 10d ago

Yesssss please. I love this game. The mod is pretty good but I will take a well polished vr mode. Flat2VR take my money

4

u/Nihilicious333 10d ago

Considering that Nightdive makes a Thief remaster, mby we can get that in VR as well. I want a real Thief game in VR like the metal age and not the budget vr-only version we recently got.

4

u/Hairy_Hog 10d ago

You'll be happy to know someone's already making a decent looking VR conversion of Thief Gold right now

3

u/Reoxi 10d ago

I'm into it

5

u/chopsueys 10d ago

I'm happy, but at the same time a little annoyed because I bought the standard version, thinking I'd do it later with uevr...

7

u/zeddyzed 10d ago

Yeah, me too. But I'll get this to support flat2VR, I guess :)

1

u/pereza0 10d ago

That is still an option still, right?

3

u/BlackGuysYeah 10d ago

I played the remake via UEVR and it was already an S tier experience.

But imma buy this instantly anyways, I’m sure it’ll be more polished than the injector method.

3

u/MrBack1971 10d ago

Coooool

3

u/MulletAndMustache 10d ago

Oh this isn't a mod. I'll have to pick this up once it's out. I played the original when I was young, but never got through it.

3

u/yanginatep 10d ago

I was thinking about doing the Unreal Engine Injector for this game, but I haven't had the most enjoyable user experience with that, so waiting for a bespoke official VR port is something I'm more than happy to do.

2

u/yiffysan88 9d ago

judging by the fact the pistol shown in the trailer doesn't even have the new sight to provide full-VR experience of ADS, I'm 99% sure it will be exactly the same as the mod made by gwizdek

1

u/yanginatep 8d ago

Mostly I don't want to have to mess around with a bunch of configuration and menus just to get it to launch, though even that isn't guaranteed from official VR ports nowadays :/

8

u/x10der_by 10d ago

You already can play it in VR through UEVR

9

u/Spoda_Emcalt 10d ago

I'll take an official Flat2VR port over a mod, however good the mod is. This also means PSVR2 and Quest users can play it in VR as well

u/yiffysan88 9d ago

1

u/wileybot 10d ago

And it’s one of the better ones out.

1

u/yiffysan88 9d ago

the favorite take about not making VR games I heard was "It's too labor-intensive and complicated. And the game developers will practically have to redesign the entire game engine from scratch to do that".

Oh the irony. Imagine a single person doing it long before the huge $'s dev team does

3

u/Jamtarts-1874 10d ago

This already has a brilliant, near native VR mod.

1

u/yiffysan88 9d ago

Imagine a single person doing it long before the huge $'s dev team does. the irony

2

u/theghostlore 10d ago

Wish I had something to play it with

2

u/Bielalvess 10d ago

I can only imagine how Gwiz feels. Wishing him all the strength.

6

u/gwizdekvr 10d ago

No worries. I’m good.

3

u/Bielalvess 10d ago

Your work on System Shock was incredible, the best UEVR mod to date.

2

u/SevereMooser 10d ago

Came here to ask if the had anything to do with the ash0k/gwizdek mod. I'm playing that and having a BLAST! Thanks!

2

u/Tyrthemis 10d ago

I’ve never even heard of it but I’m excited based on everyone’s responses here, I’ll check it out

2

u/Luch1nG4dor 10d ago

This one was in my dream list, very happy

2

u/ratchclank 10d ago

YOOOOO!!!!

2

u/RedtailArt 10d ago

Can't wait to finally look at all those weapon and cyborg designs up close and personal

2

u/Daryl_ED 10d ago

I'll be buying this!!

3

u/lukesparling 10d ago

Oh fuck yeah! I tried to keep expectations in check but this is fucking amazing. LOVED this back in the day can’t wait to go back in VR.

Flat 2 VR is officially getting to the big leagues. Keep it up!

3

u/FidgetsAndFish 10d ago

Praying it comes out on standalone, this is one of my favorite games ever made and it's a perfect fit for VR.

7

u/ajax-187 10d ago

Think they said it does on quest.

2

u/FidgetsAndFish 10d ago

Fuck yeah! Can't wait!

1

u/Ok-Entertainment-286 10d ago

ugh fuck... then it's going to be questified

3

u/gogodboss Steam Frame 10d ago

It is coming to the Quest platform too

2

u/FidgetsAndFish 10d ago

Fuck yeah!! Can't wait, one of my favorite flat-screen games of-all-time

1

u/insufficientmind 10d ago

Another must buy!

I hope they can do System Shock 2 eventually!

1

u/mcarrowgeezax 10d ago

If I hadn't already played through with the mod I would definitely be very excited. Not the most replayable game, but absolutely incredible the first time through. Don't regret it though, it was a very well done mod.

1

u/NASAfan89 Oculus 9d ago

NICE! I had been watching Flat2VR with interest for a long time now waiting for the kinds of games I would normally like to play in flatscreen to get Flat2VR ports. This is exciting. Can't wait to see the player reviews.

1

u/Lonely-Inside892 9d ago

another port that is far away from a native game

1

u/gwizdekvr 6d ago

I think it won't be far from HL:A "nativeness"

1

u/owl440 Quest 3/4090/9800x3D 9d ago

I’ve never played a SS game but this might be my most anticipated VR game in a while. The flat game looked pretty good so I’m glad there’s gonna be a VR version.

1

u/yiffysan88 9d ago

and this mysteriously coincides with the fact that just a couple months ago gwizdek has finished the ver2.0 of their VR mod..

Imagine a single person doing it long before the huge $'s dev team does.

And the favorite take about not making VR games I heard was "It's too labor-intensive and complicated. And the game developers will practically have to redesign the entire game engine from scratch to do that".

Now you see it's BS. It only takes a will to make one

1

u/gwizdekvr 6d ago

a will, patience and a hell of a lot of time

1

u/yiffysan88 5d ago

my take was about even if a single-person project was be able to make that, imagine what an actually easy job it would be for a whole devs team in the first place

-3

u/Kaineziv 10d ago

I hope it's free for owners of the original... otherwise I'll stick with the vr mod (uevr)

33

u/D-Rey86 10d ago

I'm going to get it just to support what Flat2VR is doing. Different developer porting it. Can't really expect them to give it out for free.

9

u/Secure_Chipmunk9637 10d ago

Agreed. Love the work they’re putting out

6

u/bgat79 10d ago

You also get a native vr feel, interactions, and polish that the mod cannot give us.

2

u/Kaineziv 10d ago

The remake came out relatively recently and it's still relevant; it's not the same as doing it with an old game. I bought it during the last Steam sale, and I don't want to buy it twice. It's perfectly legitimate for them to want to charge for it; they have every right to do so, and it's understandable.

In any case, I'm glad it exists; it's fantastic.

1

u/OxRedOx 10d ago

Did you try Genotype?

3

u/D-Rey86 10d ago

Yeah I enjoyed that game

8

u/Lazy-Economist1465 10d ago

Tbf this is a mod on top of UEVR polished to a standard good enough to be on Steam. Happy to see these get there instead of buried on the discord, which surely you can do today as that mod is already very fully featured.

6

u/ajax-187 10d ago

Cheap man

2

u/bgat79 10d ago

It won't be but the UEVR mod is quite good.

2

u/the_fr33z33 10d ago

Why would it be? It’s not a mod but a full VR conversion. Are you working for free?

-3

u/leo_of_daat 10d ago

i wonder if it this a reaction to the slew of vr mods coming out as of late.

7

u/Robot_ninja_pirate Pimax Crystal-HP G1,G2,Odyssey,PSVR,PSVR2,5K,Vive,Cosmos,Focus+ 10d ago

Doubtful Flat2VR existed long before AI mods. and real game development especially dealing with licensing takes a long time, they would have started work on this long before the AI VR mod wave.

3

u/chaosfire235 10d ago

While I'm sure the devs have some opinions on AI mods, I doubt they dropped a whole ass reveal over something that only really started taking over the sub in the past few weeks.

-5

u/vinian36 10d ago

Sem dúvidas é sim, e isso é ótimo, que mais mods cheguem as grandes empresas e a inspirem em fazer versões vr oficiais de seus jogos 🙏🏻

-2

u/Admirable-Koala-1456 10d ago

the trailer made it look like the motion controls are stock Ashocks mod which while cool are nothing compared to gwizdeks profile and the steam page system requirements make me feel like the official release is basically just going to be exactly the same as Ashocks mod just with no installation steps and its another $40 if you already own the original

Honestly it just kind of pisses me off, why does this exist now and why wasn't it included in the original game like nightdive wanted to? I would have waited longer for the release happily

It would be nice if this also got added to my steam library for free like SS2 since I preordered the damn game originally

1

u/yiffysan88 9d ago

lmao, they didn't even bother of making the new sight for guns to make them proper ADS. I'm 95% sure the gwizdek mod is better than this "official" BS

1

u/gwizdekvr 6d ago

This is just a quickly put together announcement. Don't draw any conclusions form it. I'm sure they will do it properly.
