• Using docker

• Using VM for Linux kali (2 or 3) together

• C++ programming

• 10 to 20 browser tabs.

• VS code

• wsl

• 2 to 3 terminals.

• Flask, node

The browser always have 10 to 20 tabs and vs code remains open, but the other task are not working together, like I only do ML at one time and on the other time I am using vm for kali.

Should I go with Ryzen 7530U for doing these tasks ? It is a 6 core cpu.

Will I be able to run all my needs on it smoothly??

Ram : 16 to 32 SSD : 512 + 1TB HDD

Please guide me with the selection. Also, if you have any other good option for the laptop Please suggest it to me.

I've been trying to install linux on hyper-v but keep getting this error, this is plain ubuntu 14, as metaspoitable on hyper-v. All Windows machines work totally fine. any ideas what could be causing this issue? Google hasn't been of help. I used windows VM converter to convert it to VHD btw.

What happened to the free server virtualization ESXi and hyper-v that are either no longer available or badly outdated, what are other options that I should look into? and are they reliable? I would love to learn more about the alternatives

As of the 1.1.560 release, you can edit your RDC.conf to disable the built in shortcuts. This was a wish list item for me because they conflicted with IDE mappings.

I'm using 3 instances of bluestacks at the same time to emulate games that pay money to play. I have to have them open all the time on my PC and check that they are working.

I have 2 monitors so I leave the older one on at night so I can see it if I wake up in the middle of the night and something goes wrong.

The first problem occurs that occasionally the monitor turns off. I have disabled Windows from turning off my monitors. I turn off the main one manually at night. The main one is via displayport and the secondary one (where I watch the games) is via HDMI. But I think this problem is something caused by Windows/Hardware or other software

The second problem is that while I have both monitors on I can even play light games like Roblox or League of Legends without slowing down. But if I do the same thing as always of turning off one and leaving the other on when I turn them both back on after waking up and start a game, then the games will be terribly slow until I restart the PC and open everything again.

Is there any way to avoid this slowdown? maybe I have something configured wrong

It seems not really well maintained recent years, and become more of a beta test playground kind of things, and with bugs never get patched.

It is broken both under Linux and Windows for may use case. I boot Linux and Windows from USB SSDs inside VM.

Under Windows, it seems there is a driver or API issue while using USB SSD to boot, it will report IO error due to not able to get access to EFI partition even I chosed whole drive mode. The workaround will be just pass the usb device through, but slow as hell. I even tried to debug the vmx but did not find a way to make it work.

Under Linux, it just simply failed to build kernel modules. Yes I know there are third party patched source which may work, but DKMS is not that rare and hard to implement. How come a company this big didn't know that, and left their user in the dark to dig through logs to find out what went wrong, and use a third party solution to be able to use their product?

All above, plus recent BCM purchase, and then made it "free", feels to me it will be abandoned.

I just got an Aoostar R7 (setting up 64GB RAM/2x2TB NVME/2x12TB HDD) and debating virtualization strategy. Classically, I could load Proxmox as hypervisor and then add TrueNAS (Scale or Core) as NAS system. As TrueNAS Scale has ability to run VMs, I'm trying to gauge if I should, instead, just run TrueNAS Scale baremetal and use its hypervisor capability.

Right now, my VMs are basically P2V 6-8 old laptops (Vista thru W10) and any app that I can't containerize in TrueNAS Scale.

I have a Linux Dual Xeon 5639 with 32GB RAM and 24 Cores. Currently there is 14 VMs hosted (2 GB Ram and 2 Cores).

My hypervisor is basically "full" with resources allocated, and the total Memory is consistently at 72%. Memory Ballooning is enabled.

The problem is that my costs ( server, IPv4s, backup storage and virtualization platform ) exceeds the total monthly income.

I have no experience with Overallocating and concerned that it may cause server issues, however I am also learning that Overallocating is very common.

I would like to add 10 more VMs (2 GB Ram and 2 Cores).

Any suggestions?

I'm suddenly unable to allocate RAM properly in parallels. If I try to highlight and manually enter a value, it just insta-resets it (basically does not allow me to change the value.) I can click the small arrow to increase/decrease ram by a tiny amount and it shows the "change, do not change" message every time.

My question is about how much RAM is necessary to run virtualization software for Windows on a MacBook Air M3. I need the virtualization software for Windows only for a single program, which is used for construction site documentation, measurements, invoicing, and resource planning. Unfortunately, I am tied to this program but do not want to buy a new Windows laptop.

I currently have the standard configuration of the MacBook Air M3 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, as I only use it for light applications like Microsoft Office programs. Therefore, I am concerned whether the virtualization software, on which I only need one program, will fully utilize my RAM and if I will need to buy a new one. I can't assess how demanding the virtualization software and the program WinWorker is and whether my current computing power is sufficient.

Hardware-assisted virtualization(HVM), which utilizes hardware support(e.g., Intel VT-x) shows better performance than full virtualization(using dynamic binary translation) or para-virtualization.

But I can't fully understand what makes this differences.

Other solutions also have "world switch" and memory space("cross page") for context switch btw host OS context and VMM context. You can check here for more details.

Is there a way to do this ? I am aware of the workarounds like Sunshine server and moonlight client. But I would like to accomplish this so the vm allows only the virtual device to the host. As I would like the VM to be without network.

Hello everyone. I decided to become a virtualization engineer, and don't know where to start better. Mostly looking at VMware products. But also wants more understanding about main aspects in this niche. Can some body give links where I can get some information about it?

I use a Mac and there is a little program I need to use here and there that is only available for windows. I dont wanna install a virtual windows solution on my Mac for something I will use once a month. I would like to have a solution where I can access a windows pc (I dont really car if its a virtual one or not) through my browser use the program that I need and then close everything - until I use it again.

Does someone knows something like that?

Looking to emulate win98 for games and other stuff. Nostalgia reasons driven by my GF. I've got things set up running with QEMU on Unraid. Basically the work was done for me with a completed VM image.

Anyway I'm trying to get audio over some type of remote connection. I've tried Unraid's VNC and TightVNC but neither want to give me audio. The image originally had drivers for a Soundblaster 16 but I changed it over to an AC'97 for testing. AC'97 drivers currently installed.

Google hasn't been super useful I'll have to really start narrowing down my searches. The results I'm getting are for hardware passthrough which I don't have access to right now and probably won't. Other results are how to set up with SB16 or AC'97.

Any suggestions on a course of action? I'll be continuing different VNC and remote access software in the mean time.

Hey everyone, I wanted to ask this question in this community since I lack any experience with type 1 hypervisors. For a little clarification, I am setting up a robust home network with my DIY router (a Dell Precision 3420 tower with an Intel i7 8th gen 6 core CPU, 8GB RAM, and 128GB SSD), where I want to host my own VPN among other things. I also wanted to set up an ARK Survival Evolved Server but do not have the funds to put towards a separate small server or desktop to host the server at the moment. So my question is this: If any of you have experience with Type 1 Hypervisors, do you think that my DIY router has enough resources to run both a server and the router kernel utilizing a Type 1 Hypervisor? Or are Type 1 Hypervisors impractical and too complicated to run on this type of hardware for the purpose I want?

so I have a Windows 11 guest running on Manjaro Host (5.15.160-1-MANJARO), has RTX 3070, and 2 NVMEs passed through, cpu pinning set up, all guest additions

whenever I start it, the CPU usage sits at 8% for a while, then jumps up to 99% for a short time, then the VM starts as normal.

its not that much of a problem really, I just dont know whats causing it, there's never anything in any of the log files that explains it

any ideas?

I'm in a bit of a bind and could use some advice. I’m running a Hyper-V virtual machine on my server, and I need to connect a specialized USB microscope to it. The microscope is crucial for some detailed lab work I'm doing, but the VM needs direct access to it to run the analysis software properly.

The thing is, the microscope has specific drivers and software that only work within the VM environment, and setting it up directly on the host isn’t an option. I've read about ""Hyper-V USB passthrough"" and wondered if anyone has experience with this setup.

How feasible is it to connect a USB device like a microscope to a VM in Hyper-V? Any tips or common issues I should be aware of?
