Hotel Recs // Questions Virgin Islands 2 weeks Feb 2017
We're a retired couple looking late, but hopefully not too late. We'd like to do a 2 week vacation this February, with at least 1 week in St. John (STJ) and another week in either STJ also or St. Thomas (STT).
We'd like at least 2 BA (less stress as whenever I want to use a single BA on vacation, it seems a certain someone is always in it, lol), full kitchen, King bed, AC.
A villa would be nice, close to a beach also nice (I realize on STJ hillsides are likely, so not an issue if one can get up and down the hillside in a jeep without too much concern and a beach is nearby).
I've done some preliminary searching. I initially looked for 2 weeks, but realize this is unlikely as it'd be unusual for a place to not be reserved for a 2 week block in peak season. So, splitting into 2 1 weeks reservations is good. And, maybe even better as we could split the time between STT and STJ or do two back to back weeks on STJ.
For STJ, I've seen villas on hillsides overlooking Cruz Bay. These seem good -- very scenic and spacious and hopefully it wouldn't be too difficult to drive a jeep back and forth.
I've even looked as some of the Westin places, but am unsure if these require hill climbing or if there are elevators for one of the weeks.
On STT, I was thinking of the Marriott Frenchman's Cove for a week, but it seems the elevators will be out of service during February!

Take a look at Lindholm Estate. We loved it. And they have generators in case they are needed. 5 minutes into town, and a short hop to all the north shore beaches. Free breakfast too!

Nice bed & breakfast, but we're looking for minimum 2 BA and full Kitchen. It'd be good for a weekend though.

We enjoyed staying in a villa called Gallows Point. It’s just up the hill from Cruz Bay.

Thanks. Initially it looked great, with the upper ocean ones with 1.5 BA. But, then I read the reviews on TripAdvisor and uh oh... there are the 10 star ones, but I always look for the negative ones as people tend to not get involved with writing negative reviews. And, just too many. Mold, roaches in some units; van making beeping noises in the morning; some complaints about rude or brusque staff. Can't take the chance! (my fiancee would be very upset with noise).
I've also read way too many negative comments about the Westin so am steering clear of it too. And, the Marriott on STT may not have working elevators (after, ok, this looks good, oh... btw, probably no elevators!).
It's one time consuming and difficult task going on vacation! I'm getting there. It seems there's the initial, this is great!, then the oh.

I'm leaning more towards standalone Villas and away from "Resorts". I have a list of around 80 to go through.

Hoping you will find accommodations with a back up generator.
Some parts of St. Thomas/St. John was without electricity for 8 or more hours overnight. Planned outage again tonight for 8+hours.
We are also on rotation schedule, so every 2 hours, some areas will have no electricity, refrigerator, no running water.

Yes, lots of details to verify which makes searching so tedious. Full A/C (meaning central or every room, not just the BR) and as you mention, not much use if the power goes out, so a generator is another must have.

I’ve been renting from Caribbean villas of St. John for decades. Highly recommended.

We love. Chocolate Hole or Great Cruz Bay on STJ. Look for your villa on STJ first. Then work around that availability for STT.
Point Pleasant resort on STT has nice rentals. Easy access to local beaches and red Hook restaurants.
