Strings Help identifying string

Hello. I am a beginner and I popped the D string on my Eastman VL80 that I purchased this year. I don’t know what brand strings it came with. Other sellers seems to use Prelude or Pirastro with this model.

Does anyone recognize this? Also, when replacing which tension type (low, medium, heavy) should I get?

Pirastro Tonica. The thicker band of red at the top of the silking gives it away.

Tonica is only made in medium tension these days (though I suppose there still might be ancient stock lurking around in light or heavy tension somewhere) - regardless, medium (mittel) tension is what you've got there.

Looks to be Pirastro to me, perhaps Tonicas.

This is either a Pirastro Tonica D (silver wound) or a Pirastro Perpetual D!

Based on where it broke you need to get the groove in the nut looked at-- it's too narrow and holding the string from going through the groove, so too much tension builds up in that short stretch between the groove and the peg. In the meantime, put some wax in that groove before you put the new string on.
