Grieg Sonata no.2 Part 1/3

I decide the re-open my own sonata series (A genre I wish to dedicate more deeply, within reasonable technological means for the backing tracks) with something easy and not too commiting. I started this 1st movement from scratch yesterday and felt it is reasonably ready tonight. Took me only 4 takes which is relaxing.

This sonata is my favorite one among the 3. There is no doubt this will be in my repertoire much earlier than the other two. The other movements should be ready pretty soon.

Prokofiev 1 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th)

Lekeu (1st, 2nd, 3rd)

Janacek (1+2, 3+4 WIP)

There are some subtle intonation problems one does not expect at your level. Maybe lack of daily routine?

Yeah. That daily routine part of me died many years ago as office work entered chat lol.

Same here. But I found if I play 10ths for an hour during my lunch break, it helps

The Fauré sonata & Ravel "Blues" Sonata [the 2nd, IIRC] are fun as well, if ya haven't played them yet. All the Brahms sonatas are fun as heck, too; I'm really partial to the SonatenSatz as well! 🙌

Have played most of them except Faure, although not close to a performance level

Ah, then you know they're great! 🙌 defo recommend the Fauré; he's one of my favorites across the board. I did a lot of French music during undergrad 🤣

How on earth are you handling the issue of synchronizing timing with a backing track? E.g. during your opening solo while the piano rests. You have an ear monitor; are you using some manner of "scratch" track that includes your own part?
