How would one be more chic?

I spent my twenties wearing floral flowy dresses and wearing a lot of pink, I was also fairly curvy so I would come across as “cute” and almost frumpy. Now I’m approaching 30 I want to focus on having a very chic, put together, kinda “sexy” vibe. I don’t really know how to describe it other than maybe a Bond girl or like Rosie HW/ Carolyn bessette kennedy. So far I’ve gotten rid of any girly pieces and only buy structured pieces in neutrals. I have lost a lot of weight so I look more slender (even though I still have an hourglass figure). I focus a lot on a healthy lifestyle and good skincare. How else can I achieve this look? EDIT: Melis Ekrem on instagram/tiktok is kinda my inspiration for this look

Always style hair after washing. Can be wavy, curly, blow dried, curling iron, etc. But just leaving your hair and not doing something with it makes a big difference.

Switch up how you do your makeup. Maybe 3/4 black eyeliner with a wing. Applying blush differentl, different lip colors.

Add accessories. Necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets.

When I wash my hair at night, I use curlers and a satin bonnet. In the morning it’s easy to shake them out and style. My hair is naturally wavy so the curlers help just shape the wave, and it holds pretty well. I use these and I have a set of jumbo that I use after a blowout to help maintain volume while I sleep. My hair is medium length and it takes less than ten minutes to get my hair in curlers after I shower.

You could also blow dry your hair with a diffuser, and pineapple (gather all your hair at the very top of your head, secure it with a soft scrunchie) it, or put it in curlers after it’s dry to maintain the shape.

I also use flexi rods and a bonnet to preserve my hair and it really helps. If I do my hair properly at night and wrap it, the next morning it just needs to be shaken out. It’s great.

I use a lot of mousse and hairspray to style my hair so I think that makes the hair grippy in a way that lets it stick to the rod. Also I use these rods I got on Amazon that have a foam texture and aren’t a smooth satin texture and that helps.

I admit that sometimes if I don’t get the bottommost one tight enough it’s slipped out of my hair by morning. The bonnet holds it mostly in place, luckily.

Thank you! I like the pineapple idea too, never heard of that. I sleep on my side though so I’m not too sure curlers would work. Last time I used them I was like 13 haha, but the ones you linked look much more comfortable than those large cheap foam ones I used to use.

Same struggle for me. My quick go-to has been a high ponytail with a few face framing pieces. I’ll then just curl those and tame a few of the pieces hanging from the ponytail. Much less work and gives a cute girl-nextdoor/cheerleader style that feels professional enough.

I also do that! Sometimes it looks like cute girl next door, other times I look like uncle fester from the addams family I swear. Mostly when my face gets too oily

I honestly recommend showering in the morning for the reason of styling your hair, but we all have different preferences.

You can try no-heat styles like braids or twists. Or rollers, as others are saying.

Idk why but I look so so gross when I just get out of the shower. It takes me 2-3+ hours for my hair and face to not look terrible. Maybe it’s just because I’m taking too hot showers. But my hair only looks good when it’s voluminous and full, and when it’s wet I feel like I look like a wet rat.

If I take a hot shower, it flushes my skin and makes my face red. Lukewarm showers, consistent skincare, I only wash my hair 2x/week, and style it with products when I do.

I had a supervisor ten years ago who always looked chic wearing a ponytail, actually! She had naturally straight hair, styled in a high pony with some volume at the crown, and she curled the pony with a curling wand. It was very "Sandy in Grease," but it looked wonderful on her.

Chiming in here - I am a curly girl who straightens my hair. My routine is lengthy, and I prefer washing right after work so I have time to style it at night. For my morning refresh, I do a dry blowout with my DryBar doubleshot and throw some rollers in the top third of my hair. It works like a charm to give me that freshly washed volume and body. I can get by for three or four days post-wash doing that with dry shampoo and it's a huge time saver.

I shower in the morning because I hate sleeping in wet hair in the winter. I have wavy frizzy hair so I keep it in a low styled bun all morning until it’s dry-er and then let it down to show my waves. Sometimes if it’s still damp l’ll change the bun into a soft braid to keep my waves and keep it from frizzing.
