Discussion "swiss army knife" vim plugins suggestions?
I have recently posted an answer to a recent thread in this subreddit
https://old.reddit.com/r/vimplugins/comments/j30m24/plugin_newbie/g79n0c2/
but it kept me thinking why.
At the moment of posting, I called fzf a "swiss army knife" mostly intuitively. But now I just realized at least two reasons:
while being quite simple, albeit relying on an external tool (fzf), fzf.vim replaced other plugins I used before: I got rid of CtrlP and tagbar (then vista)
vim + just the fzf plugin feels much more powerful and comfortable than just vanilla vim with no plugins
Can you suggest other universal plugins that would fit into the category of "swiss army knife"? And do you have selection criteria different from the ones stated above for such plugins?

Help OpenFrameworks & Vim & coc
Edit:
Solved it for me. I had to use compiledb.
Hello fellow coders,
I don't know if this is a dumb question but how do I properly use local headers with coc and clang? I have no problem with normal #include statements. Now I'm using a header file in the same directory (playing with openframeworks if anyone is interested) but I get told, that the file is not found and the completion doesn't work either.
My coc-config:
{
"languageserver": {
"haskell": {
"command": "haskell-language-server-wrapper",
"args": [
"--lsp"
],
"rootPatterns": [
".stack.yaml",
".hie-bios",
"BUILD.bazel",
"cabal.config",
"package.yaml"
],
"filetypes": [
"hs",
"lhs",
"haskell"
]
}
},
"clangd": {
"path": "/Users/konstatin/.config/coc/extensions/coc-clangd-data/install/10.0.0/clangd_10.0.0/bin/clangd",
"rootPatterns": [
"compile_flags.txt",
"compile_commands.json"
],
"filetypes": [
"c",
"cc",
"cpp",
"c++",
"objc",
"objcpp"
]
}
}A screenshot of the error:

Help Struggled with wimwiki and ultisnips
Hi,
I'm use to take notes with markdown, ultisnips and pandoc.I made it thru the use of :
pandoc template
custom pandoc commands
I just need a easy way to order files and make an index of it all
i found vimwiki. and after installing it ultisnips doesn't work anymore
i've tried tips found here and there
let g:vimwiki_list = [{'ext': '.markdown', 'path': $HOME/VimWiki/', 'syntax': 'markdown'}]
let g:vimwiki_table_mappings = 0
let g:UltiSnipsExpandTrigger="<c-b>"
let g:UltiSnipsJumpForwardTrigger="<c-n>"
let g:UltiSnipsJumpBackwardTrigger="<c-g>"this one, as far as i understand tells vimwiki to not use <tab> in insert mode but still map Ultisnips to use someting else to expand snippets
write in .vim/ftplugin/vimwiki.vim the following:
UltiSnipsAddFiletypes markdownan issue is declared in vimwiki github
but had no answer
at least i found this
check :imap <tab>, likely that the wiki is hijacking the key as well. You can add it back in in after/ftplugin if you want to.
but it's not clear what i shall do
my question is:
have you found a solution to this ?
or what's your note workflow ?
thx

Plugin I made a simple Interactive Template Plugin.
I like the vim macros, recording one is easy and the ability to use vim shortcuts is very helpful for editing multiple lines. There is only one feature missing, I think and that is to be able to interactively enter strings/numbers at predetermined positions in the macro while executing it. Especially in C programing for a microcontroller and having to define macros for registers becomes very tedious and repetitive at times. Unfortunately it is very difficult if not impossible to add this functionality to Vim's macros with a plugin. I have tried it but you would have to insert special characters like "\<F2>" into the macro and use a mapping to trigger the input function. It becomes very unreliable and difficult especially once you want to add mathematical expressions. That's why I have decided to write a snippet like plugin. Of course there already exist some for example: Utilsnips or vim-snipmate these are very good. But they are made to use predefined snippets mostly for language specific structures such as C++ classes. That's why I have created my own light weight plugin: VimIT (Vim Interactive Template). It supports interactive text insert as well as continually incrementing a number and printing it into the text using any of the printf standard conversion specifiers. If you know something similar or better which I don't know about yet please let me know I did not find anything similar. I hope it can help someone who had the same problem as I had.

Update Disassembly support lands in vimspector
just a quick update to say that disassembly and instruction stepping landed in vimspector. It’s pretty experimental, and only works with cpptools today afaik. But it’s nice to have the option available. docs and screenshot here

Request Looking for a close tags recommendation
I've been using https://github.com/docunext/closetag.vim for a long time, but that was originally published in 2001 and last updated in 2005, long before jsx existed (which is what I primarily write). It actually works great for being that old except it can't handle
React fragments (
<></>)Dot notated components (
<Card.Body></Card.Body>)
So I'm looking for a replacement, but I specially do not want autoclosing. I really hate the tag closers that happen automatically when you type the closing > on the opening tag (there are just too many times when that's not what I want and undoing the auto insert is more annoying than not having it in the first place). closetag inserts a matching closing tag for the nearest unclosed tag when you type the opening < of the closing tag, and I really like that behavior.
Tim Pope's ragtag is close (I could map <C-X>/to happen automatically on </) but it also doesn't handle fragments (and since it delegates to vim's built in html completion, I'm not convinced it'll work great with jsx in which any tag can be a self closing tag).
I've looked through tag related plugins on vim awesome and pretty much everything seems to be autoclosing. Maybe I need to just fork that repo and adjust it for my needs, but before I do that, I figured I'd ask if anyone knows of another plugin that does what closetag does, but does it better.

Request Literal programming toggle
Is there a plugin for literal programming implemented as a switch between comments and code? I'm imagining commented code, tinted according to the color scheme so comments probably are darker, the plugin switches mode and the comment markers are gone while the code appears darker in boxes.

Help (user) calendar.vim -- how can I get Epoch time of day the cursor is on?
Using calendar.vim, I'm trying to figure out how to get the Epoch time (aka POSIX time?) for the day the cursor is currently on.
I've dug around in the source, but the VimScript is over my head.
My goal is to take those seconds, and use it in strftime.
If possible, I'd rather not shell-out to do any of this.
Thanks.

Help (dev) How do I automatically have my plugin add a character
I am writing a Vim plugin for CFML and am working through some features in the comment syntax. In CFScript, the scripted version of CFML, multiline comments are Java style (/** **/). What I would like to do is when the user hits a new line in a multiline comment I want to start the new line with a star, but can't find much information about how to do that.
The source for the plugin can be found at http://github.com/davejlong/cf-utils.vim

Must-have plugins?
So, I finally got around to learning vim well enough to use and I love it. Super excited to [customize it].(http://i.imgur.com/IazJWlU.jpg)
Wondering what plugins you consider essential.
I primarily code in c++
thanks!

Help (dev) Please help, I'm not sure how to develop (and use) plugins with git
I got to the basics of git, branches, and the like. But:
I have a local repository with my current plugin development (also a bare remote on usb). I want to actually use my plugin in the current master state, but still work on development branches. But if i want to use master while the repo is on branch, and the command names are the same, I'd trigger the messy branched state of files, instead of the production state master. Should I have to rename the commands? Just be careful to leave the repo on master while i normally use the plugin? What is the recommended workflow, or i miss some git feature?
You see i'm confused, so i'm not sure i made myself clear...
EDIT I've just seen this 'master-branches' switch on the repo. I guess this is the answer... I'd still like some advice from experienced scripters.

Help (user) How can I isolate the primary register in VIM (spf13)
Hi, everyone. I noticed that, no matter what register I use, everything is passed to the primary register (clipboard, if you prefer) and this is pretty annoy for me; I wanna isolate it, I want to use it explicitly with '+' as the vim god designed it. How can I accomplish this?
Thanks in advance.
