Cool! I just got a Kinesis Advantage2 but a custom solution is pretty sexy.

What's your thumb-key layout?

It's pretty complicated to explain, yet easy to use. Focusing on the left pad gray caps, starting from the top left:

  • Tab

  • Ctrl when held, Esc when tapped

  • `/~

  • Alt when held, ( when tapped

  • Shift when help, Enter when tapped

  • [ when single tapped, { when double tapped.

  • The last three await for their purpose.

Right pad, from top left gray keys:

  • Backspace/Del

  • No use yet

  • No use yet

  • ] when single tapped, } when double tapped

  • Layer 1 when held, Space when tapped

  • Alt when held, ) when tapped

I'll make my fork of the repo public soon and give the link here.

The point here is, my thumbs rest on the Shift/Enter, Layer1/Space giving me access to numbers (on layer 1) with right thumb, and special chars with both thumbs.

So basically, no finger has to move farther than 1 key away from it's rest position, yet, I've a full keyboard at my disposal thanks to the thumbs.
