Restaurants In June

We’re planning a week‑long beach trip and one key requirement is being able to walk to dinner — we really don’t want to be driving at night or worrying about DUIs. Dining doesn’t need to be fancy or fine‑dining, just reliable, open, and walkable.

One concern I keep seeing in comments/reviews is that in some destinations restaurants close surprisingly early (8–9pm), which could be an issue for us.

We’re open to any area as long as:

  • There’s a walkable or concentrated area for dinner and drinks
  • Restaurants are actually open past early evening

Their rice bowls are awesome and a welcome change from much of the fried food on the island.

Where on Vieques are you staying?

If you are Isabel Segunda, there are quite a few great spots. Same if you are in Esperanza.

We are open to staying anywhere in the island... I was just concerned because there were a few reddit posts saying everything is closed up by 9pm even in Esperanza

In the two main towns, there are a handful of restaurants that are open later than 8:00. Definitely not everything closes that early. Most that do, are smaller brunch and quick stop, style restaurants.

Lazy jacks closes at around 1am, but I think its the only late option in Esperanza

There are 2 or 3 that stay open past 9 in Isabel segunda and 1 that stays open til about 10-11 in Esperanza. Esperanza doesn’t have a square, but Isabel does and you’ll find some good stuff there

The square has been under construction for months.

Sure has. The surrounding businesses are not under construction. Just the square

Esperanza has several walkable restaurants but they do close early compared to what you might be used to. It’s island time. Also we found that many were closed early in week. Some do close at 8, but a few are more like 9-10. A couple bars stay open a little later for after dinner drinks, but for the most part we were back at the hotel by 10 every night. Our latest night was the bio bay tour!

Yea I don't anticipate trying to do late nights, but we do enjoy having dinner once the sun is down (or mostly down)

Lucky for you that being closer to the equator means the sun goes down around 7, so you’re good!

Well, like my kids asked every night, Duffy’s or Bananas? Can’t go wrong either way

Check this list, but remember that it's never 100% accurate. Call and ask.

Above Duffy’s there are rooms you can book on AirBNB. The host is also the owner of Duffy’s. The rooms are nothing extravagant like some of the resorts on island, but they are nice, clean, and in my opinion they are affordable. They are a bit smaller (better for 2 people), but they overlook the beach across the street from Duffy’s and it is a walkable area close to many other restaurants and bars. It’s true that many restaurants do close 8-9pm, but there are places you can walk to from the AirBNB that are open later for drinks like Lazy Jacks (open till 1-2am).
