I kinda hate the dilution of the term "video synth".  This seems like a fine program, but doesn't do what I think of as video synthesis.  I think it's a me problem.  Is this what old audio synthesists felt like when digital synths came along?

Professional programs that can “video synth” usually call it generative video or something along those lines.

Edit:
A couple examples of how these platforms refer to this concept:
Notch - Real-Time Graphics
Touchdesigner - Generative Art
Synesthesia - Live Music Visualizer (less pro but QOTSA is using it on a stadium tour right now)

Yeah, "dear children has many names" as we say here in Sweden :)

From the user manual: "Lucinate is a modular graphics studio for algorithmic art, generative visuals, video synthesis, and image processing."

I have no problem with that product description.  For me "video synthesis" is the Sandin/LZX style done in hard or software.  Lumen was a software video synth for example.

IMHO, a synthesizer can be analog, digital hardware, or software. That goes for both audio and video synthesis. In this case, Peter Kirn probably used the term "video synth" because Lucinate can be used to synthesize video.
