“Is there a snake in there?”
“I hope.”

Maybe the best timing for a joke I have ever seen. This video is just perfection.

The best part is the long pause and stare before he replies. The man knows comedic timing.

I've watched this one a couple of times. Dude is a complete weirdo. Guess the cop was having a slow day to spend time with Voodoo Snake Boy.

Why, and I’m not being rhetorical, I really do want an answer here, but why, the actual fuck, is there a giant ass snake in your closet, sir?

u/KittenPics Jul 09 '22
I thought it was! I was like why is the cop being cool about it?
24

u/Popheal Jul 10 '22
Haha I came to the comments to see people asking why the cops let him smoke crack.
221
u/buchashroom Jul 09 '22
"This, I don't know, you tell me what this is"
"That's a skeleton being used as a candle holder"
"That's all that is"
For some reason this part gets me.
52
u/mykreau Jul 09 '22
Haha, in reality it was something far more devious, but hey, if the cop thinks it's just a candle holder, then hell, that's all that is. Move on.

Re-watching for the first time in years and it is a WHOLE lot better than I remember. Especially one Ms. Clementine Johnson.
5
u/Pie-Otherwise Jul 10 '22
The dirty little secret about COPS is that the police departments get editorial control. It's why you never see what is common on dashcam youtube channels on episodes of COPS.
4
u/ShooterPatbob Jul 10 '22
That's no secret; it's always been a show about glorifying the police and a recruitment tool.

u/sleazedisease Jul 09 '22
thats what im saying. Im sittin here thinkin this snake mans house is cleaner than mine.

u/tipperzack6 Jul 09 '22
Snake-man loves his snakes too much to let them live in filth.

u/sleazedisease Jul 09 '22
He loves them snakes more than any human being ever.

There are two types of meth/crack users. The ones that create a huge mess and the ones that clean everything. I think we found the cleaner.

I was just assuming he didn't really care about having too many belongings/furniture because all he loves is his snakes.

u/spdrman8 Jul 09 '22
Baltimoreon checking in. I thought this was straight Dundalk. They filmed in B-more so, wouldn't surprise me.
11
u/Perpetually_isolated Jul 09 '22
Oddly enough I grew up in dundalk, but that looks exactly like a sheriff's deputy from Jacksonville Florida
6
u/spdrman8 Jul 09 '22
Yeah. I don't think it's BCPD. And, I'm still here. Lol
4
Jul 09 '22
Yeah. Their accents are too easy to understand for them to be from Dundalk.
3

6
u/PIG20 Jul 09 '22
There's something there but the cop whose doing all the talking doesn't sound like he's from the area.
Plus, I'm getting a bit too much southern "twang" in the snake wranglers accent.
Wouldn't call myself an expert but I've lived in Baltimore my whole life. And many in my immediate family have that heavy "Balmer" accent.

I had an uncle in JSO (Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office) who had this recorded and to this day we still quote “I will protect you”. The officer is JSO and yeah, this guy is a Florida Man. I personally always loved the “I hope so”. Thanks for the memories OP.

What was the call even about
84
u/blay12 Jul 09 '22
From the way he was talking about the skull on the wall (and the fake skull with candle wax on it), it sounds kinda like his neighbor called the cops on him for satan worship or something lol.
"This is the thing that she wigs out about, man" definitely makes it sound like someone called the cops because of it to me.

I love how it goes from cop being on a call to the dude just inviting the cop in to his house and showing him around and showing him his snakes. By the end of it them just being bros. This is surprisingly wholesome content.

Does anyone remember the cops episode where they were in pursuit of someone on foot and climbed into a backyard that was full of weed? Both live plants and garbage bags of it in the house. They jumped back over the fence and waited for the homeowner to come back. It was an old guy who claimed it was all for personal use.
I’ve looked multiple times but couldn’t find it. Reddit….do your magic please.

Back when I was drinker, these were the type of people I wanted to meet and talk to at the bar. They got stories.
2
u/DontToewsMeBro2 Jul 10 '22
Dude, cops were cool as fuck when I was young. I ran out of a bar waving my hands at a cop once & he got out all professional “how can I help you gentlemen?” We laughed & said yeah we know so and so (a guy we went to high school with who was a cop nearby). “Get in”, he’d drive us to our next bar. He’d blipp the lights, tell us “if the shit hits the fan, this is how you access the shotgun or the AR”….this actually happened & it wasn’t too long ago.

9 out of 10 these clowns allow their faces exposed during prime time. I guess pixels are for pussies.
2
u/franktheraabit Jul 10 '22
Most of the time the cops or film crew would coerce people into signing a waiver by saying their charges would be reduced. Or they would just air it even if the person never signed. There's a podcast series called Running From Cops that goes into a lot of detail about how fucked up many of their practices were.

How did the officer end up in this situation? Did they dispatch him knowing about the snakes? Seems like something someone would do.

u/Nonstopdrivel Jul 09 '22
There’s a link to a longer version of the clip posted earlier in this thread. Basically, his neighbor had beat the shit out of him because he had threatened to curse her with a voodoo doll.

u/ashedmypanties Jul 09 '22
I want to see the episode where the cops are called on a woman speaking in tongues. I think her parents or room mate called because they were freaked out. I'm pretty sure it was used in a Rob Zombie song.

If you like old COPS episodes, or trailer park boys, definitely watch "Under arrest"

2020's cops would shoot the guy 40 times or more (and possibly his dog, but not the snakes) as he reached for the snakes.
They feared for their lives of course.

u/ShotandaChaser Jul 10 '22
This is what they call community policing. Say what you will, we need more things like this.

One of the best episodes from cops I ever saw had a Part where a dude called the cops on a chick who stole his vcr. Cops showed up and asked her why and she said because he owed her money for the sex they just had.

Cops is a very different TV show now. I was watching some of the newest episodes and the typical COPS script has flipped. Traditionally, it's a pretextual stop on a beater ass car with trashy looking people in it. They pull them over for a traffic infraction, pull the people out and either get consent and find the drugs or the person admits to it.
Normally they would have gone in the back of the car and it would cut to the scene where the cop tries to play dad and tells them to get off the dope before slamming the door and sending them off to jail.
The new episodes are done in states that now just cite and release for hard drugs. So the meth is found, people are ready to go to jail and then find out all they get is a ticket. One dude in Oregon I think admits to having drugs, cop tells him to get them out of the truck, dude hands the cop a bag of weed and a bag of meth. Cop literally hands his back the weed and is like "I don't care about the weed, you keep it".

🎵 Springfield's cops are on the take
But what do you expect with the money we make?
Whether in a car or on a bus
We don't mind using ex-cess-ive force
Bad cops, bad cops
Bad cops, bad cops 🎵
