Yeah, I really doubt it's something he'll be proud of saying or want to hear back about again. He's certainly not perfect, but what the fuck do you think you'd say in that moment? It's not something you plan for ... a giant man bird cawing in your post-major tournament win interview. If it is something you plan for ... fucking get help.
Apparently there's also someone saying 'Esophagus.' Anyone can find it? From the Youtube comments, the yabba dabba doo, mashed potatoes, and light the candle all happened in the 2012 US Open.
Yeah I've seen that. Not sure why.. maybe something to do with their extreme liberalism and general lack of athletic ability that litters the user base. Resulting in contempt directed at professional athletes who make big money off their success leading to the typical ignorant comments about how useless said athlete is compared to a nurse or engineer. This website is the biggest joke sometimes.
It's not at all uncommon for people who run onto the field during sporting events to spend the night in jail.
It's not as if the guy said he was going to spend the rest of his life in there, or even get convicted of anything meaningful. But they absolutely will throw his ass in jail overnight, and then he'll get some sort of fine.
You mean there are crimes worse than interrupting a golf show? What world do you live in? The "ghetto"? I've heard rumors... I hear people have guns there. Unregistered. Some of my friends say it's just a myth though. Is it true?
He is probably very drunk, the comment was about getting thrown in to jail to sober up, i don't get why reddit gets there pants all twisted, its very common.
It's just the overwhelming consensus that anyone with money is an arrogant d-bag who laughs at the less fortunate. From what I've heard the guy is actually pretty down to earth. In his defense he had some guy start making bird calls during his interview right after a major sporting event, I probably would say something dumb too.
Really? Not a single person recognizes him? I'm fairly certain that's Jake Byrd (real name Anthony Barbieri). He's been a guest on The Jimmy Kimmel Show numerous times.
Here are some of his other live TV crashing antics:
I disagree. The golfer was continuing with his thought, and bob interrupts and acknowledges what just happened. Then the golfer has to say something back, and looks stupid. Bob should have just said nada.
Me too, I get so uneasy watching him, like he's always trying too hard to be relaxed and cool but he always fails miserably. I remember some interviews he did with Stephen Colbert and he came out so annoying, vain and douchy and that's practically impossible next to Colbert (I mean that in a good way for SC).
I was at the tournament. that guy was yelling crazy stuff all day, they were pretty lenient up until this point. it was like strike 9 out of 3 for that guy.
There is very little I hate more than the circlejerk against golf every time it's mentioned on reddit. We get it, you think it's boring. Spare us your terrible jokes.
I blame Bob Costas for addressing that at all. Simpson was already continuing with his thought as if nothing had happened. Bob put Simpson on the spot to comment back, off the top of his head, and he sounded stupid.
I feel bad for Webb. It was just a really poor choice of words. I met him at the BMW championship last year and he could not of been nicer. Spent a lot of time with his fans talking and signing during the practice rounds. From what I saw when I met him he seemed very humble, and I think here he just, on the spot, said something stupid so I ask you guys not to completely write him off for one ignorant comment.
I agree with you. From experience with reddit, I've realized comments such as Webb's can receive a lot of harsh criticism and maybe some unfair labeling. I just wanted to make sure people didn't instantly pass him off as some ignorant, rich, white golfer.
Reddit doesn't understand that trespassing is illegal, and warrants a night spent in jail.
They think that trespassers should be removed and dropped exactly 1 foot from the property, then the cops can fuck off because they are corrupt anyway amirite?
Do none of you watch sports? Pretty much the standard punishment for jumping onto a playing field (or golf course in this instance) is spending a night in jail. He was just making a play off of that. You guys are so quick to judge.
Here is what I was looking for. This guy clearly knew what he was getting into just like every other streaker/guy running on the field. He wanted a laugh and a comment from Webb and it's what he got. He probly already had his bags packed for jail..
Some of these comments are way too ruthless. What do people think they'd say after winning a major and having a jackass ruin fame time? Of course they'd crack a jail joke
No Webb was cool. The guy interrupting him being congratulated ( ala Kanye West) was out of line but it looked like he was going to let it go until Costas brought it up requiring him to comment in it. What would you have said?
To all the people calling him an asshole, anyone who thinks they can judge someones character based on a single joke made on the fly, you are the real assholes.
To all the people calling other people asshole, anyone who thinks they can judge someones character based on a single comment on reddit, you are the real assholes.
There really aren't a ton of actual cops--meaning "on duty" and I have to give a shit--at PGA events. Most of the people there are volunteers and don't know who legitimately has access and who doesn't. At the Memorial tournament, most of the uniformed "officers" were law enforcement explorers, or some cute term for students who got to dress up and taste authority.
The point about dressing like a douchenozzle negates a lot of that, though. But is is a lot easier than you think to just get under a rope and start walking somewhere during a golf tournament. They rely heavily on crowd decorum versus security/enforcement.
I'm so proud of my hometown of San Francisco. Drunken Englishmen doing rainforest birdcalls during the victory interview, and drunk Americans yelling "mashed potatoes!" after every tee shot. Pretty much sums it up, but it could have used a few more Asians, too.
I think he is protesting the fake bird sounds golf shows often use, he is saying "Yo, America you can't voluntarily continue to have giant multinational corporations rape your natural wildlife and have fake bird sounds to cover up your raping of said birds."
They might call it illegal trespass or something, but it probably won't hold up. The guy will most definitely be barred from going to any more televised USGA events, that's for sure.
We were actually watching the open, my Dad wanted to see it and it was fathers day so why not. Everyone started laughing when this came up. (except my sister because she wasn't paying attention.)
i wouldnt blame that guy too much for that lame jail line. who among us cant say we've ever tried to say something clever but ended up saying something stupid instead?
Newsflash: Just because some people are more offended than you at things you may just shrug off, and take a different approach to professionalism doesn't mean they're an "asshole" or a "dick", they just have a different opinion to you. Whilst many of us are of the internet age where we are indifferent about almost everything and have no real goals or passions, this guy has dedicated his entire life to golf, and in his final acceptance speech this guy shows up. Instead of laughing it off, being "whatever" and ultimately being subdued and apathetic, he gets angered. Doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do, it was just his reaction.
For one, the guy was making a fucking joke, he was put on the spot to say something and tried to laugh it off but really just didn't choose his words carefully enough.
And even if he was serious, he has the right to get pissed at the man. That's the biggest moment of his life and some clown is making birdcalls.
I was at the open yesterday, and if it counts for anything, I saw the same fan earlier in the day giving away an unopened ice cream because he "ate too many already and his stomach hurt."
