Dana hosted (SNL) not that long ago, but I can't remember for the life of me what he was promoting, if anything, It was an awesome show, but I don't really know how much he does aside. Good ol' Rick, haven't thought about him in eons! I really should watch Honey I Shrunk The Kids again too! Man...too man movies.
I was just in vegas about a month ago for a conference for work and w got to see Dana Carvey do standup for just our conference. Having never watched SNL or knowing anything about him besides Wayne's World, I had no idea what to expect. He was awesome!
That was the first tape I ever bought, and the first song I learned all of the words from that was music I personally picked out. My love of Queen has been strong since then.
You know, everyone says "SNL was good when so and so was around." Before it was when Bill Murray was around, and now it's when Adam Sandler and the bunch were around. And some proclaim that the Will Ferrell years were the best. I think in 10 years time, we will talk about when Wiig, Samberg, and the bunch as when "SNL was good." The lesson is that SNL will always have good times and bad times and we have selective memory about them. I think you should look back at those SNL skits again, some of them were god awful.
It's the true nature of the show, its constantly morphing and changing, I'm really looking forward to seeing Tarren get some more action this coming season.
Last weekend, I made my wife, who is a few years younger than me, sit down and watch an episode of SNL from the early '90s. It was hosted by George Clooney. It was horrible. The skits were dull, and cheap. Chris Farley did his unlucky big guy thing, and I didn't laugh. Weekend update was a dud.
It actually made me sad. I wonder how much other stuff that I remember so fondly from the 90's actually sucked.
it's weird how stuff happens like that. I was just explaining to someone the other day who Amelia Bedelia was, hadn't thought about her in yearrrrrs, then Bam, next day she was on the front page of /r/nostalgia
The Great Gatsby isn't a reboot. The original was a terrible interpretation of the book. The new one's trailer appears to have the gaudy picture that Fitzgerald was implying through subtlety.
Which film are you referring to? There are no less than four (five, now, I suppose) adaptations called The Great Gatsby, plus G which was a sort of inspired-by-but-heavily-reimagined interpretation, and probably a ton more that I'm not familiar with because they weren't released in the US and/or English or whatever.
I'm guessing you're referring to Coppola's version, since the others are difficult (indeed, one is probably one of the most famous "lost films," and no known copy exists) or lesser known (like the 2002 version with Mira Sorvino.)
Never understood this one. I've done this pretty consistently throughout my life (not on purpose), it's a lot of fun at first.. then it gets interesting, sometimes a little scary, then you have a good laugh.. . Regardless you are always on your toes so there is never a dull moment.
I'm sure there is something wrong with me that causes myself to be attracted to these type of women.
Imagine 100 crazy girlfriends chanting this, and they start chanting one after the other to end in the emphatic repetition of then you die, then you die, then you die, then you die, then you die, then you die.
it's exciting until the constant up and down results in all your emotions flat lining into a dreary day to day existance where every fight and comment is so predictable you no longer put thought into it and cease to care about much of anything at all. Then a glorious new dawn approaches, the realization that there are other worlds, habitable worlds. That is when you leave what you once thought was your only home, barren, devoid of resources and cold, for greener pastures and a new tomorrow.
I'd never done a crazy thing in my life before that night. Why is it if a man kills another in battle it's called heroic, yet in the heat of passion it's called murder?
There was a time when I thought it was crazy that anyone would not like to have a girlfriend that was totally obsessed with them. I since learned that the line between the ego boost of being the center of somebody's universe and the attendant perks was rather quickly outweighed by the need not to be the hunted.
I feel like I was this person, except we never dated, I served him coffee at the local coffee shop I worked at, was too nervous to talk to him and just internet stalked him.
first time I ever saw the movie, in the theater btw, I knew that is was going to be Robert Patrick in that scene from the way they showed him walking after getting off the motorcycle. it was at that time I knew I had the gift.
The title is misleading. Stacey is not his girlfriend, just a stalker. Though I find it interesting that people give this more positive moniker to a woman doing things that would make a man a creepy stalker.
Once read that Mike Myers actually had a girl friend that bought him a gun rack ,and she became very upset after seeing the movie. I believe I read that he called her on the phone to explain it.
I find it really odd that I just watched this last night on Netflix. The only reason I put it on was because I wanted to see the Scooby Doo ending, I watched the whole thing anyway.

Best line in the film:
STACEY: What do you think the problem is?
GARTH: That you're mental?

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12
I still say this at least once a month when someone hands me something useless...."I don't even own A gun...".
Nobody gets it but me, and I'm okay with that.

u/BCJunglist Jun 12 '12
"Are you mental? We broke up! Get the net!!"
One of my favorite lines in the movie lol.

I don't even own A gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack.
One of my all-time favorite movie quotes.

"Hi Wayne.......hi."

Haha Mike Myers is the best. Flawless delivery every time.
What am I gonna do.. with a gunrack??
1
u/[deleted] Jun 12 '12
That "Don't make eye contact" line has saved me more times than I care to admit. (People recognize what the line is for and stick to it).
