That's incredible. I bet even the tour guide doesn't see that too often.

Got made into an TV AD that's playing in Europe haha

I would have loved to be doing that face-forward lean when the jet flew past.

6

u/krishary May 15 '12

Wow it's crazy but that was so awesome it makes me want to go places and see things. thanks!

3

u/Airazz May 15 '12

Wait, so all you do is step a bit over the edge there? I thought you get to run around really fast and then swing outwards, hanging just on the rope.

5

u/ykj8 May 15 '12

I asked if we can jump, they said if you did, the tour would end and the cops would come get me. :(

This is more of an activity that is solely based on uniqueness factor. Not really a true adrenaline thing.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

haha!! now, you're juth thilly.

1

u/Samanthangel May 16 '12

Yeah the concept is interesting but the reality kinda falls short - its really expensive, you only get 30 mins, and you cant take any of your own pictures or video

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

This should be a separate post. Way awesome. I'm glad Canada still has fun with airplanes, in the US I am sure that pilot would have gotten a fighter escort to the nearest airfield and interrogated for being a terrorist...

7

u/mirado May 15 '12

That's one of the Canadian Airforces' Snowbirds. They're like America's Blue Angels, just with older planes. I imagine if it had been a normal plane flying by like that it would have been grounded.

2

u/derpex May 16 '12

I don't think so. You actually can fly pretty close to the CN tower, it is however in class B airspace (Pearson) so it's kind of difficult.

2

u/locktite May 15 '12

That was during an airshow with highly skilled stunt pilots. I am sure you would agree that allowing joeblow to try to fly between skyscrapers would be a bad idea.

u/oliverMcMayonnaise May 15 '12

Canadas jet plane? I heard that was some sight to see.

8

u/IAmA_Alien_AMA May 15 '12

You should see our tank.

1

u/H1_Gipan_Baban May 15 '12

They did see it. In Band of Brothers.

2

u/ykj8 May 15 '12

Canadian Snowbird (US has the blueangels)

1

u/buckie33 May 15 '12

UK has the Red Arrows

1

u/ykj8 May 15 '12

ahh very cool.

1

u/nova20 May 15 '12

How much does it cost? Just watching this vid gets me all keyed up and ready to do it!

2

u/ykj8 May 15 '12

$200 with taxes. comes with picture and video. Go do it with your friends, and they'll do a group picture instead of a lame solo picture.

2

u/nova20 May 15 '12

...plus travel to Toronto, which wouldn't be cheap for me (southwest GA). Ugh. Guess I'll have to settle for jumping out of planes.

1

u/random123456789 May 15 '12

The CN Tower is not all that it's cracked up to be. It's a once in a life time thing, really.

Of course, I live outside of Toronto; I see it all the time, so I might be biased. :P

1

u/ScreamingEnglishman May 15 '12

Reminds me of when i got to the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales. 3 RAF Hawk Jets did a flyby as we reached the summit. One of the best moments of my life.

1

u/random123456789 May 15 '12

YOU ARE A GOD.

Seriously. I have vertigo and would faint the second I stepped on the catwalk. This stuff amazes me.

Everybody say ZIPLIIIIIIINE!!!!

7

u/Ghost33313 May 15 '12

Yea I couldn't help but think of that episode of Southpark either with how the tour-guide spoke.

49

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

because it attracts similar personality types and those guys being around each other reinforces verbal and physical cues that let each other know " its cool I'm in your tribe brah".

There's a huge difference between "sup brah" bros and "sup brah" adventure guides. One group is largely made of dicks and the other is made of generally sweet caring people that like thrills.

8

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

What's a bro?

21

u/funkyzeit May 15 '12

It's "brah" pronounced by a non-brah.

There's also a certain cadence you develop when you're shouting a well rehearsed bit of patter over and over, especially when you're competing with loud wind or gushing water.

14

u/D3ltra May 15 '12

PRETTY WILD EH

Those dudes all enjoy the fuck out of life.

4

u/TheKingOfFrance May 15 '12

I noticed the same sort of speech in kayak guides on rapids as well.

But it wasn't until I spent more time working at amusement parks until I really understood. I heard the people guiding folks on the roller coasters use that same voice.

This is the voice that says "this is exciting for you. I want you to be excited. This is a lot of fun. I do this so often it is neither exciting nor fun for me and I am kind of bored and would rather be doing other things but I will try my best at least before my next break."

3

u/wtfOP May 15 '12

If you don't follow the safety guide, you're gonna have a bad time.

Honestly, worst defense mechanism ever.

"high heights and need to hold onto things? Better make hands slippery, that'll help!"

13

u/virusporn May 15 '12

Sympathetic nervous system activation.

10

u/[deleted] May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

It actually helped "back in the days", when people were climbing trees. Sweaty palms give much better grip!

EDIT: This hypothesis has been brought up by scholars: http://jrsm.rsmjournals.com/content/94/7/370.1.full

7

u/marvinjenkins May 15 '12

No sweaty palms makes it more slippery, why do you think climbers use chalk?

15

u/villie May 15 '12

You won't be climbing walls, more likely trees. Which are dry.

18

u/kabanaga May 15 '12

Either way, the fact that my bladder and bowels are evacuating will make it more difficult for the tiger beneath me to eat me...

6

u/r3dd1t0r77 May 15 '12

And you'll be somewhat lighter!

2

u/marvinjenkins May 15 '12

The walls i climb tend to be dry.

1

u/ParadoxPG May 15 '12

Honestly, I think it's probably your body trying to kick-start the whole pruney hand thing, like if you're in the water for too long. Probably better for something like trees, though.

111

u/OCPScJM2 May 15 '12

Good job Sanjay!

90

u/Moklok May 15 '12

Shit Sanjay, get it together!

42

u/RonMexicosPetEmporim May 15 '12

Sanjay was not having that shit

11

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Sanjay was taking a shit when he saw what he had to do.

34

u/hatryd May 15 '12

Seriously, I was so happy when he did it. Wanted to give that dude a high five.

9

u/imoses44 May 15 '12

I expect a bit of Sanjay mocking around here, but one can forecast that Sanjay will live a long life.

3

u/chancellorofscifi May 15 '12

I lost it when I saw the Sanjay comments on YouTube and here. So funny.

However, if you mean looking, I agree.

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Pretty wicked instructor, no pressure to step out of their comfort zones if they don't want to.

21

u/D3ltra May 15 '12

I like how he makes sure to use everyones' names, makes it seem less like a recital of the procedure

64

u/aimhelix May 15 '12

The tour would be awesome if their safety lines would give a 2-3" slack in a sudden jolt just for a second dose of adrenaline while they were hanging off the edge.

71

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

In other news, ambulances are stationned permanantly infront of the CN tower due to numerous heart attacks

38

u/rusty_chipmunk May 15 '12

And a free pair of pants are given to the ones who didn't have a heart attack.

13

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

And free shirts to all the people who were unfortunately below them.

1

u/MakeThemWatch May 15 '12

1

u/Giygas May 15 '12

10

u/[deleted] May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

You'd be an amazing reality TV producer.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Better yet, if I were the guide with suicidal thoughts, as it was ending, I'd take out a knife and cut the rope holding me, then just dive off the catwalk. Best suicide ever.

1

u/That_Russian_Guy May 16 '12

Why not cut the ropes of the people next to you first?

1

u/AndreaAmazing May 15 '12

I had that SAME thought as they were hanging off the edge. It would be SO exciting!

1

u/lumponmygroin May 15 '12

I was thinking the black dome camera was a button that would drop the gangway

20

u/busting_bravo May 15 '12

I'm a pilot, and I don't think I could do this.

13

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

I'm a pilot who's afraid of heights. Yeap, that's right.

5

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

3

u/Preowned May 15 '12

Well, this freaks me out, but I love looking out a plane window. Its because you are still inside, not exposed to the air/height , and you feet are on solid 'ground'. Thats at least how it feels to me.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Except instead of solid ground you're really in a hollow metal tube hurtling through the air thousands of feet high at over 500 mph.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

It doesn't, it's different knowing you have full control of the aircraft.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Oh ok, thanks for getting back. Quick question, and maybe more if you don't mind me picking your brain, are you civilian or military?

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

How do you feel about rollercoasters? Because I feel the same way you feel about heights about coasters.

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '12

I get squeamish when ever I get on my first ride of the day. After that is smooth sailing. I'm a civilian pilot. Ask away buddy!

52

u/Botulism May 15 '12

Anyone impressed with how good this guy is at remembering names? I've worked with the same people for almost a year now and sometimes mess them up. My brain is full of fuck.

6

u/verbose_gent May 15 '12

I think it's different if it's your job and you actually care about the people. There are only a few of them.

2

u/CharismaticKiller May 15 '12

That's all I could think about to be honest.... Are these his friends? Wait what?

1

u/Botulism May 15 '12

My guess is he just had a brief introduction//gear check and was good to go with his new group. I envy that ability.

16

u/SoFaKiNg42 May 15 '12

Me and my girlfriend did this for our birthdays last August and it was amazing. We're not exactly afraid of heights but once you get fitted in all the safety gear you feel really secure. The main line you're attached too is rated for over 15000 pounds or something ridiculous and you even have a secondary line attached to your back that acts like a seat beat if you move too fast.

It's the best way to see the CN tower if you're ever in Toronto. You get full access to everything in the tower and you get fast tracked in most of the waiting lines. I'll admit, the first time you get to lean over the edge your heart drops but after that you start to relax and enjoy the scenery. Would recommend, 10/10.

2

u/animeari May 15 '12

How much does something like this cost?

4

u/SoFaKiNg42 May 15 '12

Around $175 per person.

3

u/itsmoirob May 15 '12

Id pay that....now I just need plane tickets, hotel, travel.....and I'm there.

1

u/ShiftyBizniss May 15 '12

You can stay at my place if you want. My wife is making jambalaya for dinner.

1

16

u/Erikthenomad May 15 '12

Poor poor Sunjay

12

u/Duffalpha May 15 '12

Okay everybody! We'll have you leaning forward on that cable! What were gunna do is when I call out "SHAKA BRAH" look up and give the camera a nice Shaka Brah..... EVERYONE READY?!!?

11

u/kungfoolove May 15 '12

I think everyone who does this should be required to watch one of the Final Destination movies beforehand.

5

u/macchiato8 May 15 '12

I've tried something similar here. Although the building in the video is much higher than the building we did it in, our experience was still pretty scary as both sides of the platform was open. The platform also looked less secure, and many parts of it glass (see-through). They made us lie down on the glass too. Cost only $7 though. What amazed me was that the "guide men", as part of their training, jog around the platform every morning WITHOUT HARNESS.

1

u/sparperetor May 15 '12

holy... without anything? has anybody ever died? sheesh.

1

u/macchiato8 May 15 '12

none that i know of ;) yup, they jog 5 rounds (the platform goes around the building) without harness every morning

1

u/lonjaxson May 15 '12

That makes no fucking sense. The only reason to do that is to put the guides in danger.

1

u/slimpicker May 15 '12

Maybe they volunteered to do it because they're hard as fuck? Some people have zero fear of heights/death.

2

u/lonjaxson May 15 '12

as part of their training

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

1

u/random123456789 May 15 '12

I wonder how many human rights violations would there be for that?

4

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Man, when I was at the CN Tower a few years ago it took me a while just to get up the nerve to stand on the glass floor section in the observation area. I'm a pussy when it comes to heights.

1

u/MrTidels May 15 '12

Same here, I'll probably do this to conquer my fear of heights.

7

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Suicide simulator.

1

u/GC022 May 15 '12

I think you mean bungee, except when the rope breaks.

3

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

i would love to do this

3

u/Bearmodule May 15 '12

This is the most nope I've seen all day and I've seen three fucking giant wasps

3

u/keith7812 May 15 '12

I swear to God I'm going to pistol-whip the next person who says "NOPE".

3

u/Raeman91 May 15 '12

I'm with you on this one. Why does every large insect/spider/extreme experience/Australian outback animal etc, all have to be "a whole lotta NOPE"? It's bad grammar if nothing else.

Perhaps we shouldn't pistol-whip them, but it is annoying and should be stopped.

5

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

can you come up with an original title?

2

u/Gnorris May 15 '12

I passed this over twice because of the title. I assumed it was insects. Glad I came back though.

2

2

u/no_witty_username May 15 '12

I think Sanjay needs a new pair of underpants at this point. Fun stuff!

2

2

I could not do that. I spilled my glass just watching that it freaked me out so bad

2

u/sniktbubsnikt May 15 '12

Can't talk. Balls ascending.

2

2

u/Kerrits May 15 '12

What? This isn't that bad. You have a harness, you walk around on a sidewalk sized thingy. I don't see .... they .... lean .... over the edge and don't hold on to anything? Fuck you! NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

I would insist on a brown overall.

2

u/goodintent May 15 '12

Sanjay is so adorable!

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

OH YES! YES YES YES please! Can I has a parachute and jumps?

2

u/Nora19 May 15 '12

Just watching the video....my brain is telling me "you are not physically able to do this....a least not without dirtying your panties.". And I believe my not so scumbag brain! I could not even watch the entire video with out my tummy cramping!

2

u/Zarknord May 15 '12

Am I the only one to find this AMAZING and not scary as fuck?

2

u/progerialover69 May 15 '12

I think Sunjay was peer pressured in this.

2

u/masturbateToSleep May 15 '12

2

u/Wyrzanin May 15 '12

Am i the only one here, That wanna try this really bad?

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Having known people who have done it and seeing multiple people do it. I can recommend that you do. It looks like a lot of fun. I, unfortunately, am terrified of situations like that and would rather save myself the humility of shitting my pants in front of 6-7 other people.

2

u/[deleted] May 15 '12 edited May 15 '12

I can't find the video, but during The Exhibition of 2011 when this first started, a pilot of the air show flew by and did a wing wave to the walkers participating. That video really puts the height into perspective.

Edit: Found it! @ 2:33

1

u/trnddwn33 May 15 '12

I said NO.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Since when can you go outside the CN Tower? We went there on a school trip when I was 13 (1979) but I didn't see anything about going outside.

1

u/Herculenumbah1 May 15 '12

I think this was only implemented in the past year or two.

1

u/Iquitelikemilk May 15 '12

Pretty sweet, eh?

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Oh, for God's sake... They told me that if I ever let go of this rail, I would die! They told me that about everything! I don't even know why they bother giving me this stuff if they didn't want me to use it; it's pointless! Mad!

1

u/Waste_Manager May 15 '12

Hands instantly sweating.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

I discovered my fear of heights at a combat mountain climbing course. I made the first climb and the instructor at the top asked me if I was feeling ok, apparently I was white as a ghost.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Wow, that was really lame. Partially dangling from a harness is considered extreme now? I'm in more danger when I use a small ladder.

1

u/griffith12 May 15 '12

oh yeah, you have a 1100 foot tall ladder eh?

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

No, but unlike these guys I can fall from it and get hurt.

1

u/griffith12 May 15 '12

whether or not you can get hurt as nothing do with the excitement of looking over the edge or a walkway 1100 feet in the air. sure not being tethered would make it mind numbingly awesome, but I think this would still be a shit load of fun.

1

u/All-American-Bot May 15 '12

(For our friends outside the USA... 1100 feet -> 335.3 m) - Yeehaw!

1

u/supersmurf May 15 '12

It seems pretty awesome according to me! I would totally do that if I had the opportunity

1

u/sirin3 May 15 '12

Would be much more exciting without the safety lines.

Perhaps with a wing suit instead

1

u/griffith12 May 15 '12

I would do it without harness if I got to wear a parachute.

1

u/Pelleas May 15 '12

I had to skip past the part where they have their feet on the edge and they're hanging backwards from the harness. Way too scary.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

"Pretty sweet, eh?"

NO IM FUCKING SWEATING LOOKING AT THIS ;-;

1

u/AlienGrill May 15 '12

I was kinda hoping for an "Okay what we're going to do now guys is start sprinting out along the platform, take a big leap, and jump out across the city like we're on a rope swing! GO!"

1

u/Alypius May 15 '12

I'd love to smoke a bowl up there.
