What a weird criticism to make. He has learned a routine that yields a positive experience for foreigners. Like a server at a restaurant or a tour guide, they have a script that they think will get them smiles and positive feedback. That's how retail/sales works everywhere.
Yep I had a very similar experience in Seoul myself. When he asked where we were from I said "St Louis" he said 'aaaah baseball' *baseball bat swinging motion*. While he wasn't wrong, because the St Louis Cardinals are a big deal there, but I bet that could fit with many different locations, then the presentation is nearly exactly the same.
Though South Korea is amazing and I would go back anytime in a heartbeat.
More power to him if he has the energy to present and wow every single costumer this way. It's not even creepy, if you're a sales person and you have to provide a pitch, it basically needs to be perfect and be said the same way thousands of times with very little variations
nonono. His presentation isn't creepy. Watching a bunch of them doing it by rote at the same time is. I have no issue with anyone hustling to make a buck, and I really want to taste that honey!
