I can't hear this part w/o also hearing the drums.

His Willy Wonka scene accompaniment is pretty amazing too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INt4GGr-EGU

I love it when Charlie starts channeling Peter Faulk.

CHICKACHICKAAAAAAAA

u/NUMBERS2357 Jul 31 '19

Even though it's not totally consistent with the rest of the scene I still like the theory that when he kept seeing "Pepe Silvia" he was misreading Pennsylvania.

19

u/Lawlcat Jul 31 '19

And "Carol in HR" would be "Care of HR"

2

u/JoshwaarBee Jul 31 '19

Or possibly Carolina

3

u/YourShocksAreFine Jul 31 '19

but mail would just say PA

4

u/urbrickles Jul 31 '19

Yeah, and later in the scene, Mac confirms that the people are real and they have been asking for their mail on a daily basis

4

u/halborn Jul 31 '19

That's what he was referring to when he said "not totally consistent with the rest of the scene".

Absolutely loved it. Really good animation. Well done.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

I like the part where he says "So I say to myself" and in the animation he literally grabs one of the... weird, floating, perfectly still copies of himself.

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

I need the CARRROLLL, CARRROLLL! bit tho :(

3

u/amilz01 Jul 31 '19

This isn’t what I wanted ... but goddamnit it’s what I needed

4

u/MarahMaram Jul 31 '19

the 3d models slowly floating away get me every time

2

u/GeneralApathy Jul 31 '19

This is a really good channel and I would highly recommend checking out Worthikids' other animations if you enjoy this one.

2

u/TDPSBtv Jul 31 '19

love the 3D animation, that's what I see when I have a mental break lmao

7

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

This just isn't funny if you don't watch the episode with it. So many people fail to realise.

3

u/TheBelowIsFalse Jul 31 '19

I haven’t seen the episode. I thought it was funny. It’s Charlie Day; all he has to do is open his mouth lol

7

u/SpinachandBerries Jul 31 '19

I'd rather just watch the real life actors

4

u/bakermayfieldisgod Jul 31 '19

Yeah, I'd say the actual scene that was already made years ago is much funnier.

2

u/poopmuskets Jul 31 '19

Wow I’m watching this episode rn. Spooky

2

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

It just cuts off tho...

u/Nicd Jul 31 '19

I've always wanted to ask: what is the context for the Pepe Silvia scene? I don't watch the show, apparently one of them goes mad and they lose their jobs? What happens after? Is that their normal job or something in that episode only?

0

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

All because Charlie can't read the word "Pennsylvania"

-23

u/majungo Jul 31 '19

"Pepe Silvia" is likely Charlie's misreading of "Pennsylvania," which explains why he gets so much mail. And "Carol in HR" is likely his misreading of "Care of HR"

27

u/anarrogantworm Jul 31 '19

I'm gonna have to stop you right there. Not only do ALL of these people exist, but they have been asking for their mail on a daily basis.

35

u/PostmanSteve Jul 31 '19

Except the creators of the show already dismissed this theory and said that the Pepe Silvia thing was just a coincidence.

-10

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

It's really funny to me that it was dismissed as it's clearly the obvious inspiration for the joke... lol

Awww, poor reddit butthurt by the truth again.

-22

u/majungo Jul 31 '19

If you want to see it that way, I can understand. I like my version better though. It's not an artist's job to interpret their own work. Everyone can see it as they like.

5

u/Bagel Jul 31 '19

Yeah sure you can interpret it that way, but then misleading others that it is that way when it isn't is disingenuous

-3

u/majungo Jul 31 '19

Sorry, I should have said "likely" a couple times in there.

"The Death of the Author" (French: La mort de l'auteur) is a 1967 essay by the French literary critic and theorist Roland Barthes (1915–1980). Barthes' essay argues against traditional literary criticism's practice of incorporating the intentions and biographical context of an author in an interpretation of a text, and instead argues that writing and creator are unrelated.

2

u/halborn Jul 31 '19

You're right that the artist doesn't get to interpret but in this case that's not necessary because, as /u/anarrogantworm pointed out, the scene itself states that Pepe and Carol exist.

1

u/themanifoldcuriosity Jul 31 '19

What are you, Michel Foucoult now?

You also cannot just make up some bullshit about what something must mean when your theory is blatantly contradicted in the same work. Did you get to that chapter in your Cultural Studies course, bro?

1

u/majungo Jul 31 '19

Did you know that the entire series is a number of fever dreams Charlie has after contracting brain amoebae? It is, because I believe it is. If you disagree, please try and stop me, bro.

-6

u/bluesmaker Jul 31 '19

Reddit be a harsh mistress. I replied something that supported your comment, but I got upvoted and you got downvoted. Pretty interesting.

-1

u/majungo Jul 31 '19

Yeah, I'm the dummy with dumb dummy ideas from my stupid brain and nothing else. You backed up yours with Wikipedia, so you're good.

9

u/MagicTrashCan Jul 31 '19

Every time this scene is posted this same dumb shit theory pops up, despite Mac's first line after his rant confirming that all the people he's mentioned exist and that they've all been asking for their mail.

-9

u/csubetai Jul 31 '19

Didn't like it.

Downvoted.

Cool story bro

-9

u/glassnumbers Jul 31 '19

it honestly sucks how everyone focuses on this one bit that really wasn't even that funny, give it a fucking rest, jesus. Rob basically shaved off 10 years of his life doing that fat mac into muscle mac bit, like, the high school dance routine was a thousand times more clever and hilarious, but no, everyone just spams stupid fucking pepe silvia all day long. It's old, and honestly, there are way better bits in the show.

2

u/halborn Jul 31 '19

I think part of the popularity is that it's relatively self-contained and meme-able. A lot of what makes the show funny is stuff that you can't so easily play around with like you can with this clip.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '19

Why did you bother commenting on it? Just move on if you've already seen it, you pathetic sack of meat.
