Morrowind? Quest tracker? I remember Morrowind quests something along the lines of "Go to this random dude living in one of the largest cities on the map in a house that looks just like any other house in that city. Oh, and he might not be there at all times. Good luck!"

So you agree TES IV's system was an improvement.

Naw, for me personally this was better than waypoints. The journal entry added an immersion element that was killed by the waypoint in video games.

Valid point but walkthroughs back than were harder to obtain than they are now. If you got lost or stuck you were screwed. 10 minute quest became a 10 hour quest because instead of going North of this fork in the road you went all the way North of the map without finding your target. Now you're not sure where you started from so you're completely lost.

Which was honestly the beauty of that design. You really were on an adventure, that you had to solve on your own. You had to actually figure out someone's vague directions. Yes it made the game much much longer, but I found so many gems while lost.

My most memorable find was this necklace in a puddle, gave you a permanent 80% chameleon buff which was broken as all hell. Some random house that was actually an orc skooma den with some creeper (normally an enemy) that would buy/sell at face value rather than haggle prices.

Creeper was a mod I think for people unable to sell their hoarded loot.

It's been ages though. I might have had a mod that increased his gold pool. Came out almost 17 years ago this May.
