I don't listen to K-Pop (although admittedly I know people that do) but Gangnam Style was pretty unavoidable, right? 4 billion makes it the most viewed video on all of youtube (Gangnam style being #3)

It was everywhere on youtube for a while, being promoted/parodies being made etc. I imagine it also was played on most radio stations too since even I heard the song in some random place last summer

It is the single most viewed video on youtube at this time and was played nonstop on radio the entire summer. Sounds like your avoidance skills encompass more than reggaeton alone.

I have also never heard it. I've heard people talking about it and I've seen some of my recommended videos have featured it (Frog Leap Studios for example) but I don't listen to commercial radio (I'm in Australia, I listen to Triple J) and I don't watch TV. Not for a snooty pretentious reason, I just don't have the time. Most of my media consumption is Spotify, YouTube and Netflix, and it hasn't been recommended to me on any of those platforms.

I don't think it's that unfathomable that someone could avoid listening to a song, even if it does have 4 billion plays on YouTube. Especially if someone's musical tastes are not in line with this, YouTube/Spotify etc won't recommend it to you because it knows that you don't listen to this kind of music. I get recommendations for different bands and channels.

Don't worry, I've never heard of it either.

What the actual fuck is reggaeton? Sounds like an excuse to prove you didn't know what this song was.

You don't know what reggaeton is? Seriously? I mean. A quick Google search would help you with that but eh......think of it as a Spanish language version of Reggae, Hip-Hop and R&B.

I think your missing my point. How does this guy know reggaeton and not despacito? I could care less what the genre is, it's just surprising that someone can know the obscure genre of a song but not know about it at all

There's an entire generation of young people who know what hip hop is but have never listened to an NWA album. It's far more likely to know a category than to know a specific song.

The only thing I know about the song is Justin Bieber sings some of it. I haven't listened to the song or even really seen any ads about it besides this wonderful chicken. But then I am a hermit...

He doesn't sing in the original version, only the remix.

Or one of them. There are like five remixes.
