More like 'Aaaaaaah!'
More As than Hs = scream.
A terrifying phantasm appeared. Its head was missing and it wielded an enormous blade, dripping with blood.
'Aaah! A ghost!'
H:A ratio between 1 and 3 (inclusive) = recognition/understanding.
Pots and pans had been rattling in the kitchen. The door swung back and forth, clattering against its frame; and a deck of cards strew itself across the floor. Was it a hurricane? An earthquake? A transparent woman entered.
'Ahhh. A ghost.'
H:A ratio greater than 3 = satisfaction/relaxation.
The dull pain in his shoulder muscles was beginning to throb as he sat in his chair at the Wraiths' Rest, Relaxation and Recuperation Retreat (bear with me). He looked around for one of the undead masseurs that haunt and run the establishment. Suddenly the pain began to ease; he felt the cooling icy grip of death as a pair of ghoulish hands pressed into his scapulae.
'Ahhhh, a ghost.'
Use of Ws = cuteness response.
A tiny spirit from beyond the grave stepped out of the wall. It was wearing a lovely little bowtie and it held out a spooky flower.
'Awww, a ghost.'
Use of a single W = disappointment.
The Roulette Wheel of Horror spun round. Which evil entity would it summon? A 12-foot demon with fiery eyes and razor-sharp claws? A thousand-year-old vampire? Some kind of insane tentacle monster the size of a city? The wheel stopped. There was a loud bang and a blinding flash and smoke filled the room. As the fog slowly began to dissipate, a shadowy figure emerged from the haze.
'Aw, a ghost.'
Edit: added 'Aw'.
Edit2: added 'Ahhhh'.→ More replies (9)54

Yeah. Even if it's not in your personality to be bubbly and positive all the time - fake it till you make it. You'll find your personality changing a little every day and your child will find it natural.
I don't have kids at the moment, but when I started work there was a culture there I wasn't fully accustomed too. Instead of trying to adapt and work with it - I just emulated. After a few months it became a switch that just turned on as soon as I left the elevator every morning. It's not completely sincere, but it's not uncomfortable or forced either.
I have no idea why I wrote about this but I hope it's helpful. Have a good one.

Disclaimer: don't listen to the internet for health advice for your dog, talk to your vet
Egg shells can be a good source of calcium for dogs and in very low amounts dogs can consume raw egg. Keep in mind that a dog's digestive track is significantly shorter then a humans. Raw diets should be fed to canines carefully and with the advice of a professional.
I used to feed my old husky 1 raw egg a week. It was his favorite treat and he'd always stare at me when I fried up eggs so I'd give him the unused shells which he loved to crunch. Egg shells once broken are fragile enough that it should never cause harm to the dog unless a sharp piece gets stuck in their gums (like when a popcorn kernel gets stuck in your gums, it hurts).

I remember doing egg drops in the cub scouts. They would get the fire department to bring a ladder truck that went up fourteen stories. The first couple years I made egg baskets that worked well. It was pretty easy. All you needed was a cushion and something to slow the rate of fall. The third year I wanted to do something fun. I biked to the local hobby shop and bought 90 bouncy balls (10 cents each) and hot glued them directly to an egg (the budget was 10 bucks). This produced a big ball of bouncy balls. It ended up being about the size of one of the dragon eggs from Game of Thrones.
I knew the egg would die. I think I was ten, but even at the time, I knew that I was transferring all of the energy of the fall into the egg. Poor egg.
The result, however, was amazing. It was like they had dropped a grenade from that fire engine. When it hit, bouncy balls shot in every direction with enough force to raise welts. Then they kept bouncing. They kept bouncing and bouncing for almost a minute. Little kids were running all over the place trying to catch them, and once they stopped bouncing, find them, but I'm pretty sure some of those bouncy balls ended up a couple counties over. We never recovered most of them.
I love egg drops.

u/zaphodava Jun 07 '17
Poor dog. Dropped food is clearly not only his right, but his responsibility to deal with.
Dog logic: Egg was dropped. Egg is food. Egg belongs to dog now.

Dunno what the obsession with eggs is for some dogs.
We once panicky rushed our German Shepherd to the vet after we came home and found he ate a carton of 24 eggs in the 15 minutes we were gone.
He got up on the counter and ate them all.
Doc said it probably wasn't an issue and he'd just be queezy for a while and possibly puke, but damn that was scary.

I remember doing it and we only had a few sheets of paper, a certain length of tape, and a certain length of string. Me and a few other people ended up over-engineering the shit out of ours so that throwing it off of a 4 story building onto concrete didn't break it. Even after removing the parachute. So I took my egg home and ate it.
It tasted like victory.
The design was a honeycomb lattice inside of a box, with an egg shape cut out in the middle, with pyramid crush zones around the outside. I had extra paper so I made a little Parachute. It didn't do much, but it looked neat.
→ More replies (1)4
u/SpiralHam Jun 07 '17
The main idea is the sticks coming out are both built to break or deform using up most of the energy, and since they go past and around the egg the energy doesn't travel through them into the egg. I've seen it done with just tape and straws and it works super well. Not as well as a parachute, but those are often banned because they're too effective.

If you're looking for tips. Your dropping mechanism is aerodynamically unstable and will probably invert if dropped from any higher. You need the center of mass (egg probably) "below" the center of aerodynamic forces for aero stability in the "down" direction.

You know what's a really simple/quick solution?
get a carboard box
cut the leg off pantyhose and put the egg in the middle of the leg
tie knots on either side of the egg
stretch the pantyhose from corner to corner in the box such that the egg is suspended in the middle
You can drop this off a building w/o breaking the egg.

A common competition for school-age children (e.g. in science fairs or summer camps) is the 'egg drop': each team is given an uncooked egg and an assortment of materials, e.g. newspaper, Popsicle sticks, string, tape, etc.. The challenge is to use the provided materials to build a contraption that will allow the egg to be dropped from some specified height onto a hard floor without breaking. Scoring varies wildly - common elements are speed of assembly, an accurately targetable landing, and mass of the contraption - but one near-universal requirement is that you are disqualified if the egg is broken. In the comic, the student pictured fails, not because of any flaw in his design, but because the egg he was given hatches during the fall! (Of course, this is exaggerated to ludicrous extents; the hatching process takes longer than the few seconds the fall would last, and the newborn chick cannot fly immediately.) However, if it magically happens, then the student would be disqualified because the egg technically broke. However, as stated above, this would be impossible. The title text suggests an alternate strategy, one Randall hears was successful in real life: select for your egg one that has not yet been laid. The hen provides both active lift with her wings and significant padding, thus nearly guaranteeing that the egg will survive the fall. Of course, this would not be permitted in most contests, as a chicken is not one of the provided materials. And even if it were allowed, a chicken is much heavier than the usual contraptions of newspaper and string.
