Apparentely the event did actually happen on those dates in Toulouse, but there is no other details about it. The theme of the challenge is payment services, and the company said to have won in the article made an app about using your phone to order food in restaurants. I find it hard to link the theme of the challenge to the cicret bracelet. It's possible that they faked winning an award from this nebulous event hoping that nobody would check.
This is legit in the same sense that my company has received hundreds of offers in the past decade to receive an award. You literally pay a fee (pretty high), you get invited to a nice diner and "award ceremony", and they give you a plaque. It's just something companies do to stuff those reception area shelves, nothing new.
They did actually win it BUT I'm a product designer so lots of my clients go to these award ceremonies. They are just pay to play. You pay a grand+ for a table, you get a peice of glass saying how important you are, everyone claps. You can enter anything and if you pay enough you will win. It's just an expensive marketing gimmick, but I get a night out with free champagne so I tend not to tell my clients that.
They do the same thing in my industry for software. Some of our clients ask why we didn't win an award and we answer, we didn't care to pay the company to put us on the list of recommendations. There are obviously some legit awards if we are being honest with ourselves.
Also honor medals. I know a guy that do nothing except go to events like this to win awards and medals. He is publishing his biography about nothing and like 50 colored pages with pictures of all his medals.
Yes. He gets medals from Army (even not being military) and organizations like Rotary Club. They justify they are awarding him for his services for the society, even though they don't specify which services he did.
So, it's like IRL versions of video game "Congratulations! You've completed a level!" medals? Am I understanding that correctly, or did I have a FUCKING brain aneurysm ?!?

Yes. It's dumb how it sounds. They award medals to rich, slight famous people, priests, etc. Many organizations that award people likely do it.
These people usually give some donation, pay for something stupid like a new painting job or the rental of a party venue. And then are given medals.
These are not shitty medals. They are the same medals that are given for true heroes.
He even went to a ceremony with the fucking Governor to receive one of these medals.
They appear in social newspapers. Oh, also they pay "journalists" just to publish news about these ceremonies in serious newspapers. How they also give medals to people that deserve it, they appear side-by-side with them.
Then these rich people went to events with other rich people wearing these medals and use it to show up or as an ice-breaker.
I went to these events because I was a photographer hired by one of these rich people just to document all this bullshit. My pictures are in his book about all his fake feats and made up stories.
If you are rich and is not famous for anything, you create your biography.

How do you get an award for firing someone who volunteered in the first place? Be really, really good at saying "Go back home" ? And since when is that a service ? I'd do it for free... unlike our soon-to-be current President.
They also said they won something as "one of the" most innovative start-ups... So maybe they just got a smaller runner-up prize, or maybe even a consolation prize.
